Ornate Masterfully Relief
Carved Monogram and
Grapes Cane - Canes steadily grew in popularity starting around the 16th century, reaching their peak amongst the upper classes of society around the late-19th and early-20th centuries. They became more than just an accessory, but rather a symbol of ones status and wealth. This piece is a prime example of one custom made for
an affluent gentleman, as the T-shaped antique ivory grip has been masterfully carved with the original owners monogram “AM”, a bunch of grapes above it, and a floral band at the base. The smooth shaft appears to be ebony and is tipped with antique ivory. It measures 33 1/4 inches overall. CONDITION: Very fine, the grip has an attractive lightly aged tone
overall, a few scattered
hairline age cracks, and
a few scattered light
handling marks. The
shaft is also very fine
with some scattered
light handling marks,
retaining most of the
varnish, and a few
hairline cracks in the
antique ivory tip.

Unique Relief Carved Hand Holding Cane -
Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. This example is decidedly not of middle class origin however and was almost certainly the possession of someone
in the upper echelons of society. The antique ivory grip has been masterfully relief carved in the form of a hand grasping the grip of the cane as if it’s the user’s hand. The grip is joined to the shaft by
a thin brass band with floral designs. The shaft is
a bamboo-like, springy wood and is tipped with brass. It measures 33 1/8 inches overall. CONDITION: Very good, the grip shows an attractive lightly aged patina overall with a couple hairline age cracks and minor chips. The brass shows an attractively aged patina. The shaft is also very good with some light crazing throughout and mild wear. Estimate: 1,300 - 1,900

Attractive Detailed Relief Carved
Rose Bouquet Cane - Beginning in approximately the 16th century, canes gradually became more popular among
the upper echelons of society, reaching its pinnacle around the late-19th to early-20th centuries. Generally speaking, the more affluent and customer, the more elaborate the cane was, primarily to show off one’s social and economic status. Flowers were often a common theme for women’s canes, however, given its size, this cane was likely intended for a man. The antique ivory grip of this example has been expertly relief carved into bouquet of roses in full bloom. The grip is joined to the shaft with a plain gold band that has a small “NP” hallmark. The smooth shaft is of Malacca and is tipped with brass and iron. It measures 36 1/2 inches overall. CONDITION: Very good, the grip shows an attractive lightly aged tone, a couple minor chips on the petals, and otherwise minimal wear. The gold is mostly bright with some mild thinning of the plating. The shaft is
fine with some scattered light flaking and crazing of the varnish.

36 1/2 inches overall.
CONDITION: Very fine, the grip showing
an attractive lightly aged tone and some scattered very light scratches. The German silver band show a mostly bright patina. The shaft is also very fine with a few scattered minor dings/scuffs and retaining most of the ebonized finish.
