Cased Pair of Engraved Schneevoigt Percussion Target Pistols
-A) Schneevoigt Target Pistol - Serial no. 126, 40 cal., 8 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Heinrich Schneevoigt (1818- 1878) is noted as a gunmaker in Schleswig-Holstein and Lahr in Germany.
The rifled barrels have dovetailed blade front sights, “SCHNEEVOIGT IN LAHR” signed on top, and gold banded breech plugs with nicely sculpted scroll pattern bolsters. The underside of the barrels have “1” and “2” respectively along with “126” and “ENGL:GUSS=STAHL 1842.” The “1” and “2” markings are repeated on the respective pistols in other places as well, including on the standing breech behind the adjustable notch rear sights. The back action locks are signed “SCHNEEVOIGT,” and they and the furniture have scroll engraving. The pistols are equipped with adjustable single set triggers and spurred trigger guards. The half-length stocks have shell and floral pattern carved
horn caps, fluted wrists, and silver wedge escutcheons. The pair comes in a fitted case with a “A.v. Goeler.” label inside the lid and a suite of loading and maintenance tools.
CONDITION: Fine with a mix of fading original finish and brown patina along the barrel, bright gold band, dark aged patina on the silver, 50% original case colors, 40% original blue on the trigger plate and trigger guard, and crisp engraving and markings. The stock is also fine and has distinct fluting, minor handling and storage marks, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are mostly fine to very fine and have mainly minor age and storage related wear. CONDITION: Fine with a mix of fading original finish and brown patina along the barrel, bright gold band, dark aged patina on the silver, 50% original case colors, 30% original blue on the trigger plate and trigger guard, and crisp engraving and markings. The stock is also fine and has distinct fluting, some scattered marks and scratches from handling and storage, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine.

Cased Pair of Engraved and Relief Carved Gottfried Muller Percussion Target Pistols -A) G. Muller Target Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 8 1/4 inch octagon
bbl., bright/casehardened finish, walnut stock. These 19th century German target pistols have etched pattern welded barrels with eight-groove rifling, dovetailed blade front sights, “GOTTFRIED MULLER IN SUHL” in silver inlay on the top flats, and silver banded breech plugs. The standing breeches feature key adjustable notch rear sights, “1” and “2” respectively in silver inlay, and scroll engraving. The locks
and German silver furniture also feature scroll patterns. The former also includes hammer stalls and bestial motifs on the hammers. The pistols are equipped with adjustable single set triggers. The stocks have relief carved mask designs with inlaid eyes at the forend tips and fluting on the wrists. The birdseye maple, fitted case contains a loading rod, cleaning rod, sight key, jag, powder flask, mold, powder measure, combination screwdriver and nipple wrench, key, and a few balls. It also contains an old paper label that appears to reference to some earlier owners. The case lid escutcheon is scroll engraved and has “W. Furbringer” in gold inlay. CONDITION: Very good with silver-gray patina along the barrel along with distinct twist patterns, dark aged patina on the silver inlays, 40% of the fading original case colors on the standing breech and lock, aged patina on the German silver, and minor overall wear. The stock is also very good and has crisp carving and fluting, light scratches, and minor age and storage related wear. Mechanically fine. The case has cracks but is otherwise mostly fine with mild age and storage related wear. The accessories are mostly very fine with minor storage wear.
B) G. Muller Target Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 8 1/4 inch octagon bbl., bright/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good with silver-gray patina and distinct twist patterns along the barrel, dark aged patina on the silver inlays, traces of case colors in the protected areas and otherwise smooth gray patina, aged patina on the German silver,
and minor overall wear. The stock is also very good and has distinct carving,
light scratches, a small tension crack on the left at the breech, a repaired crack through the wrist, and general minor wear. Mechanically fine.
