Cased Pair of Perin-LePage Percussion Dueling
Pistols -A) Perin-LePage Dueling Pistol - NSN, 58
cal., 8 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut stock. These pistols were originally flintlocks
manufactured c. 1813-1830 and thereafter professionally converted
to percussion in the period. Gunmaker Louis Perrin (or Perin) of
Poitiers was married to Justine LePage, daughter of gunmaker Jean LePage
of Paris. Perrin moved to Paris c. 1830. The swamped, Damascus, rifled
barrels have dovetailed blade front sights fitted at the muzzles. Notch rear
sights are fitted on the upper tangs. The locks have inset, golden maker’s
marks that read “PERIN. LEPAGE/A/POITIERS.” The furniture is casehardened.
The trigger guards are spurred and enclose adjustable single set triggers. The half-length stocks
have checkered wrists. The pair comes in a fitted case with a mallet, loading rod, balls, jag, oiler, container, screwdrivers, nipple wrench, powder flask, and adjustable powder measure. The cleaning
rod is absent.
CONDITION: Fine with 40% plus muted original casehardened finish, mix of fading original finish, and smooth gray and brown patina on the barrel along with distinct Damascus patterns, bright gold maker’s mark, and generally minor storage wear. The stock is also fine and has distinct checkering, a
minor crack in the pommel, and minor overall wear. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are fine with mild age and storage related wear, including staining and fading on the lining.
B) Perin-LePage Dueling Pistol - NSN, 58 cal., 8 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine with 40% plus original muted casehardened finish, mix of fading original finish and smooth gray and brown patina on the barrel along with distinct Damascus patterns, bright gold maker’s mark, and generally minor storage wear. The stock is good and has distinct checkering, cracks in the pommel, some minor scratches and dings, and small chips at the trigger guard inlet. Mechanically excellent.

Attractive Pair of Aury of St. Etienne Percussion Officer’s Pistols
-A) Aury Percussion Pistol - NSN, 69 cal., 7 1/2 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, walnut stock. These very attractive pistols feature rifled
Damascus barrels with fixed nickel silver blade front sights, bright finished locks and furniture, “1” and “2” respectively on the breech plugs along with fixed
notch sights, “-AURY-/A ST ETIENNE” lightly signed on the locks, spurred trigger guards, and figured walnut stocks. Unthreading the lanyard rings on the
pommels reveals compartments containing powder measures that screw onto the end of the iron ramrods. French gunmaker Pierre-Louis Aury was an inspector at the Mutzig arsenal starting in 1808 and then controller in 1814. He became the controller at the arsenal in Chatellerault in 1831 to 1832, then in St. Etienne, and retired in 1838. His son Louis Aury worked in St. Etienne starting in 1820 and became an award winning gunmaker and remained active until c. 1879.
CONDITION: Fine with much of the re-brown finish remaining, traces of pitting, mostly silver-gray on the polished lock and furniture, and minor overall wear. The re-oiled stock is also fine with age related storage and handling dings and scratches, flame figure, and a small splice at the forend tip on the left. Mechanically fine.
B) Aury Percussion Pistol - NSN, 69 cal., 7 1/2 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine as professionally refinished with much of the brown finish remaining, traces of pitting, mostly silver-gray on the polished lock and furniture, and minor overall wear. The stock is also fine as professionally refinished and has dings and scratches, flame figure, and a small crack at the heel on the left. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,500
