Desirable Framed B. Kittredge & Co. Colt Single Action Army Revolver Advertisement -
This desirable piece is a full-page advertisement for B. Kittredge & Co., a continuing marketing campaign for the newly introduced “Colt New Model Army Metallic Cartridge Revolving Pistol”, more commonly known as the Colt Single Action Army revolver, or sometimes the legendary “Peacemaker” as it is so-called in this advertisement. Kittredge & Co. had begun advertising the revolver as early as 1874, however, with this piece dated 27 October 1876, it could still
be considered very early in the story of the Peacemaker. This eye-grabbing advertisement prominently features a life size drawing of the revolver, the cartridge, and the legendary Rampant Colt trademark. It also shows “The Peacemaker” nickname in multiple places and has the printed notes from the Ordnance Department giving their nod to the revolver. The piece is mounted and nicely matted in a frame that has an antique gold finish and measures
24 7/8 x 19 1/8 inches overall.
CONDITION: The advertisement is fine showing clear text and imagery, minimal staining or fading, and a few minor horizontal creases from having previously been folded. The matting and frame are excellent with a few scattered light handling/storage marks on the frame and the gold finish showing an attractive artificially aged appearance. An advertisement that would make for a standout addition to a room housing a Single Action Army collection or an office! Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
