Documented Colt Employee Shipped Colt Lightning Slide Action Medium Frame Saddle Ring Baby Carbine - Serial no. 16456, 32-20 cal., 20 3/8 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1886 with standard markings and features along with various British proofs on the left of the barrel and one on the receiver. The copy of the factory letter lists it in its current configuration (caliber, barrel length, wood, and finish) in a shipment of 10 guns of this type to E.F. Bodwell on April 16, 1886. Bodwell is noted as a Colt employee at the time. R.L. Wilson lists him as working as a bookkeeper and in other capacities for
the company in “The Book of Colt Engraving” on page 245.
CONDITION: Very fine with 70% plus original blue finish, most of the loss on the frame where it exhibits a smooth brown patina, some slight spotting, crisp checkering and markings and general minor marks and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 6,500
  legend ahead of the rear sight and “44 CAL” at the breech. A Rampant Colt is stamped on the left side of the receiver. The forearm has an outline carving, and the rifle buttstock is plain and fitted with a rifle buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 75% original blue finish with thinning to a brown on the balance. The upper receiver tang is mostly a smooth brown patina. The buttplate is a mix of gray and brown patinas. The wood is also very fine with a couple slight stress lines at the tangs and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. This San Francisco Police marked Colt Lightning rifle will make a great addition to any Colt or law

CONDITION: Very fine, showing a mostly smooth brown patina on the barrels with strong patterns, 50% vibrant case colors with the balance a fine grey, 90% blue on the triggerguard and toplever, and overall light handling evidence. There is a small crack at the upper tang to the right; otherwise, the wood is very good with some light dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

Very Fine San Francisco Police Marked Colt Lightning Medium Frame Slide Action Rifle - Serial no. S.F.P.266, 44-40 cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This is one of only 401 Colt Lightning slide action rifles the San Francisco Police Department purchased in 1898. These rifles were specially marked and numbered with special serial numbers on the lower tangs. “S.F.P. 266” is marked on this example. The actual Colt production serial numbers ranged from 82088-83998 and are stamped on the lower tang beneath the stock. The serial number “83366” is stamped on this example, and it dates to 1898. The rifle is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel stamped with the two-line Colt
 LOT 1157 Colt Model 1878 Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun - Serial no. 1586, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1879. Blued Damascus steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth solid rib, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with a single extractor. The casehardened rebounding hammer action is unadorned aside from the factory “Colt’s Pt. F. A. Mfg. Co.” marking on either lockplate and features a set of double triggers. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with ebony tip inlay and round knob pistol grip stock with blued steel buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore

LOT 1158 Colt Medium Frame Lightning Slide Action Rifle - Serial no. 53933, 38-40 cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The copy of the factory letter indicates this rifle was in the current configuration when shipped on March 8, 1892, in a shipment of 10 guns of this type sent to Hartley & Graham in New York City. It has a German silver “Rocky Mountain” style blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight, standard markings, checkered pump handle, and smooth rifle buttstock with steel buttplate.
