Documented Winchester Model 94 Lever Action Carbine Carried by Legendary Texas Lawman Jess Sweeten with Scabbard and Signed Affidavit - Serial no. 1554937, 30 WCF cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1948, this Winchester Model 94 carbine is documented as having been carried by the iconic Texas sheriff, Jess Sweeten. The included 2002 dated affidavit signed by Jessie Nell Sweeten, Jess Sweeten’s son, states that this carbine was carried, usually in his car, by the Texas lawman during his remaining years as Henderson County sheriff as well as during his time as a special investigator for the Mobile Oil Company. The left side of the barrel has the standard address/ proof steel, trademark, and caliber markings. The upper tang is unmarked. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a ramped beaded blade front sight, elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, and is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel shotgun buttplate. Includes a Bedell Rogers of Longview, Texas marked tooled leather carbine scabbard. CONDITION: Fine, retains 70% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, mostly in the form of scabbard type wear. The wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A rare, Texas law enforcement documented, Winchester Model 94 carbine! Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Two Documented Texas Law Enforcement Slide Action Long Arms with Signed Affidavits -A) Remington Model 760 Rifle - Serial no. 66553, 30-06 Springfield cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1974, this rifle is documented as used in law enforcement by the legendary Texas sheriff and exhibition shooter, Jess Sweeten. The included 1975 dated affidavit signed by Sweeten lists the rifle by serial number and confirms its use. Given the date of manufacture, this rifle would have been used by Sweeten during his time as a special investigator for the district attorney’s office. It has the standard markings and features. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish with some scattered light spotting. The refinished wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. B) Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Riot Style Shotgun - Serial no. E765449, 12 gauge, 20 inch round bbl., chrome finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1926, this Winchester Model 1897 is documented as being used by Jess Sweeten during his legendary Texas law enforcement career. The included 1975 dated affidavit signed by Jess Sweeten lists the shotgun by serial number and states that it was used throughout his law enforcement career and was involved in one gun battle. Single steel front sight bead. The slide bar is roll-stamped with the model and trademark information, and the barrel is marked “12 GA.” and “CYL” along with the Winchester address and patent information. Oval Winchester “W/P” proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and the receiver. The serial number “E/755669” is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. Mounted with an 18-groove forend and smooth pistol grip stock fitted with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches. CONDITION: Fine, retains 75% of the period applied chrome plating with a few scattered patches of light wear/flaking, some markings slightly softened, and some scattered light handling marks. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, and the toe of the buttplate repaired with a well-fitted horn splice. Mechanically excellent. Grouping of Texas Lawman Jess Sweeten Memorabilia - This grouping includes a variety of material pertaining to the legendary Texas lawman, Jess Sweeten. The grouping includes two biographies, “Jess Sweeten Texas Lawman” by Allan Sigvard Lindquist and “A Trail is Never Cold: The Life and Times of Sheriff Jess Sweeten” by Lawrence Melton Jr., a service award plaque for 20 years of service as the sheriff of Henderson County, Texas, a framed certificate and badge for being awarded the title of Special Texas Ranger, and multiple newspaper articles pertaining to Sweeten and his career. CONDITION: The items are excellent with minimal wear overall. This would be an excellent grouping of items to pair with any of Sweeten’s firearms that are offered in this auction.
