Magnificent Engraved Left-Handed Holland & Holland “The ‘Royal’ Model” Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle
in .465/500 Nitro Express - Serial no. 35653, 465 Express cal., 24 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut stock. When you hear the name Holland & Holland a few words immediately come to mind like class, art, and exceptional, and this double rifle very much lives up to all three. Since 1835 Holland & Holland has been building remarkable pieces of firearms art that both function without flaw and are breathtaking to behold. This rifle is built
with a set of blued chopperlump barrels featuring a ramped beaded blade front sight with flip-up moon bead, matted raised rear quarter rib hosting a two-leaf (one standing, one folding) rear sight with gold sighting line, and engraved “.500/.465 NITRO EXPRESS” on the sunken rib. The barrels are signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” on the right and “33, BRUTON STREET, LONDON.” on the left and struck with 1994 dated London nitro proofs on the flats. The bolstered hand detachable treble grip sidelock action is vibrantly case colored and displays highly attractive broad scroll engraving over a matted background flowing off of the action onto the left hand opening blued toplever, left hand rolled
edge triggerguard, with the serial numbered tang inlaid in fine gold. The scrollwork surrounds bright polished and nitre blued action pins, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” banners and gold lined cocking indicators on either lockplate, and “THE/’ROYAL/MODEL” marked on the underside of the receiver. The rifle features bushed firing pins, a double triggers with an articulated front, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. The wood shows exceptionally fine figure on the semi-beavertail forend and pistol grip stock and features excellent double bordered multi-point checkering, engraved and casehardened fittings, teardrop carved flats, a shadowline cheekpiece for a left handed shooter, “N.G.N” engraved on the gold inscription oval, and a leather covered recoil pad. Included is a factory oak & leather takedown case marked “N.G.N” with a canvas cover marked the same and containing a pair of nickel snap caps, a nickel oiler, and a full compliment of cleaning tools. Also included is an aluminum case that holds the other for protection. Length of pull 14 9/16 inches. Weight 10 lbs. 4 oz.
