Severin Signed Game Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid Mauser 98 Bolt Action Sporting Rifle with Zeiss Scope - Serial no. 110380, 8x60 mm cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrel with a ramped blade front sight, sling stud barrel band, gold inlaid caliber marking, five position (one standing, four folding) rear island sight, commercial German proofs, and engraved front German claw mount on a saddle base. The blued action shows standard proofs and markings, Mauser banner on the front receiver ring, engraved rear claw mount, and gold inlaid and deep relief engraved bolt handle and knob. The action is mounted with a Zeiss Diavari Z 1.5-6x42 T* scope. The scope does not fit securely in the rear mount. The bottom metal and triggerguard are extensively decorated with outstanding scrollwork with gold borders as well as a relief inlaid gold bear on the floorplate and a pair of wild boars on the triggerguard, both cut in very high detail. Signed “Severin” ahead of the floorplate, likely for FN master engraver L. Severin. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with horn forend tip and grip cap, rear sling stud, raised cheekpiece, “GB” in the gold inscription oval, and red rubber recoil pad. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% plus refinished blue finish and 99% gold finish with an area of rub wear on the underside of the barrel, minor pitting in areas under the surface, and light handling evidence overall. The wood is very good with a few dings and scratches, a repaired crack in the wrist, and a mix of worn and crisp checkering. The scope optics are sharp. Mechanically excellent. LOT 1607 Attractive Custom Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle in .375 H&H Magnum - Serial no. 426287, 375 H& H cal., 24 inch part round bbl., blue finish, fancy checkered walnut stock. Manufactured in 1958 and subsequently custom upgraded to current configuration. Features a ramped beaded blade front and a folding leaf with fixed rear “V” notch rear sights fitted to the barrel mounted quarter rib. The barrel is marked “G R DOUGLAS/375 H & H.” The clover leaf tang receiver is factory drilled and tapped with scope mounts, while the serial number and “WP” proof are faint from refinishing. Both the bolt body and follower are jeweled, with a checkered bolt handle. Fitted in a multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with ebony forend tip and magnum bolt inserts, Skeletonized metal grip cap, and a slightly deteriorated leather covered recoil pad. CONDITION: Very fine as custom upgraded to current configuration, retaining 98% blue finish with light edge wear, minimal handling marks, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. LOT 1608 Pachmayr Gun Works Upgraded Browning Safari Bolt Action Rifle - Serial no. 8L45790, 30-06 Ackley Impr. cal., 22 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1968, and subsequently upgraded to the current configuration by Pachmayr Gun Works for a Maj. Mark F. DeHayes. No additional information has been found about DeHayes other than him mentioning in his correspondence that he was stationed in the Middle East when the rifle was being built. The rifle features hooded beaded blade front and single leaf flip up rear sights on the barrel which has been magna ported and rechambered to 30-06 Ackley Improved. All metal surfaces on the rifle display a satin rust blued finish with the standard Safari Grade engraving on the trigger guard and floorplate hand cut and an engine turned bolt and follower. Mounted in a beautifully contrasted fleur-de-lis checkered Bastogne walnut pistol grip stock with ebony nose cap, skeleton grip cap, flush fit sling eyes, and Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. Includes a leather sling as well as several documents of correspondence between DeHayes and Pachmayr and Pachmayr brochures. CONDITION: Excellent as upgraded by Pachmayr Custom Guns, retaining 98% plus professionally refinished blue finish with a few light handling marks and a few softened proofs. The stock is very fine with some minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,500
LOT 1609 Upgraded Remington Model 700 LH Left Handed Bolt Action Rifle with Scope - Serial no. 6808744, 6.5 cal., 23 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This rifle is equipped with a Redfield 2x-7x scope, upgraded barrel, exceptionally upgraded trigger, and a jeweled bolt. The top of the barrel is marked “For Stan Smock By Keith Stegall”, and the right side of the barrel is marked “6.5 X 270”. Mounted in a nicely figured left handed stock with multi-point checkering. Stanley Smock Jr. was, among many other things, a gunsmith and also a firearms instructor for the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado. CONDITION: Excellent overall as professionally upgraded to its current configuration, retaining 99% plus of the blue finish with minimal handling evidence and crisp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent and optics clear. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250
LOT 1610 M.K. Owen Built Mauser Model 98 Bolt Action Sporting Rifle in .40 Newton - Serial no. 4019, 40 cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Built on a standard length Mauser action, this big game rifle features ramped beaded blade front and two leaf express rear sights. The barrel is marked “M.K. OWEN” on the top at the center, and “40 NEWTON” on the left of the chamber. It is mated to a standard length Mauser Model 98 action marked on the left wall with the Mauser address and on the bridge with the Mauser Banner logo. Mounted in a wonderfully contrasted and figured multi-point checkered Schnabel tip pistol grip walnut stock with Universal red rubber recoil pad. The included correspondence from Ken Owen states that this rifle is one of three built in recent years with the help of Larry Wales’ book “The Newton Rifle” (2nd Edition) and also provides information on the .40 Newton cartridge. A Plano case and shipping box are also included. CONDITION: Excellent as custom built, retaining 99% plus professionally reblued finish with limited handling marks, some light pitting under the finish, and light spots of surface oxidation. Wood is also excellent with a couple dings and scratches and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
