Outstanding Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver in Desirable .44-40
W.C.F. - Serial no. 642, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel
finish, walnut grips. While limited in production to only approximately 25,000-30,000 revolvers between 1875-1889, many of these “Improved Army” or “Frontier Army” revolvers saw hard use in the hands of Native Americans, settlers, and lawmen in the West. The Model 1875 was Remington’s answer to the Colt Single Action Army and is arguably a more solid firearm with fewer main components than Colt’s revolver. The Remington Model 1875 suffered from a combination of Colt’s earlier start, as well as their government contracts, which weighed very heavy with firearms consumers of the time. Handling one of these revolvers, it is easy to see that a gunslinger in the American West that truly knew their firearms might prefer one of these over the hype and reputation of the Colt Single Action Army. The barrel on this example is marked with the standard single-line E. Remington & Sons address. The left front of the frame is marked “44”, a marking used by Remington to denote revolvers in .44-40 W.C.F., rather than the proprietary .44 Remington CF. The matching serial/batch number is marked on the left of the grip frame, the loading gate, the trigger guard tang, and in pencil on the inside of both grip panels. It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, and a pair of smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 99% plus of the bright original nickel finish with some scattered very light handling marks, a cylinder drag line, and a small barely noticeable casting flaw in the left of the trigger guard bow. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and retaining almost all of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. This is a benchmark Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver that would be welcome in the most prestigious collections! Estimate: 9,500 - 16,000

Scarce and Desirable Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army Revolver - Serial
no. 792, 44-40 WCF cal., 5 3/4 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hard rubber grips. Remington only manufactured approximately 2,000 of these Model 1890 Single Action Army revolvers circa 1891-
1894. The Model 1890 was the successor to the Model 1875 and 1888, and was also intended to be the competitor of the Colt Single
Action Army like its predecessors. Like its predecessors, the Model 1890 is less complex and more sturdy than Colt’s Single Action Army, but
suffered the same fate of living in the Peacemaker’s shadow. This model is one of the most sought after of all of the Remington produced
handguns. The top of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.,” and “44 C.F.W” is marked on the left side of the frame just below
the cylinder. The matching serial number is marked on the lower left side of the frame under the grip, loading gate, and on the trigger guard
tang. It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with “RA” monograms at the tops, and a lanyard ring
on the butt. Like many of the Model 1890 revolvers, the barrel length is actually 5 3/4 inches rather than the listed 5 1/2 inch length.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the of the original nickel finish with some scattered patches of light pitting and polishing near the muzzle and otherwise some scattered light handling marks and specks of flaking. The slightly undersized correct grips are fine with some modification marks visible on the butt, scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering otherwise. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500
