Documented Factory Engraved Colt Model 1877 Thunderer Double Action Revolver with Tooled Holster - Serial no. 117084, 41 Long Colt cal., 4 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, antique ivory grips. Manufactured
in 1900, this is a fine example of a documented, factory engraved Colt Model 1877 Thunderer revolver. According to Colt historian R.L. Wilson, approximately 475
Model 1877 Thunderers were factory engraved per the factory records. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration including the engraving (grips not listed) as well as sale to A.J. Anderson, who the consignor notes was located in Texas, and shipment to Simmons Hardware Co. in St. Louis on 8 March 1900. The top of the barrel is marked with the
standard two-line address with “COLT D.A. 41” on the left in an engraved banner. The three-line patent dates and circled Rampant Colt are marked on the left of the frame. The matching serial
number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and rear face of the cylinder
(“084”), and the assembly number “45” is marked inside the loading gate. It is fitted with a blade front sight, frame top groove rear sight, and a pair of smooth grips. Includes a floral pattern tooled leather holster.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original nickel finish with some mild flaking scattered throughout showing a grey or brown patina, mostly around the engraving and markings, and a few scattered patches of light pitting. The slightly shrunken grips are very fine with a few hairline age cracks around the screw, some light handling marks, and an attractively aged tone.
Mechanically excellent. The holster is fine with moderate wear. Estimate: 4,500 - 6,500
