Documented Antique Special Order Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action
Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 237974B, 44-40 WCF cal., 24 3/8 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The factory letter lists this rifle as originally having an octagon barrel and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on April 30, 1887, and it was then sent back to the assembly room to be switched to a 1/2 octagon barrel and 1/2
magazine and shipped on February 21, 888, in order 5141. The part octagon barrel has a German silver blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight, standard two-line address and patent marking, and “44 CAL” at the breech. The Third Model frame has the dust cover sliding on an integral track on the top of the frame, “MODEL. 1873.” on the upper tang with foliate accents, “44 CAL” on the bottom of the elevator, and “237974B” on the lower tang. It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and rifles stock with crescent buttplate and empty compartment.
CONDITION: Very fine with 70% original blue finish, aged patina on the brass, 60% plus of the lightly fading original case colors on the hammer, lighter case colors on the
lever and buttplate, and mottled gray patina on the balance. The wood is fine and has moderate scrapes and dings, a rough patch on the right side of the forend, and mostly smooth finish. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
LOT 3054 Winchester Second Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 11293, 45-75 cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured 1880 as a Second Model with dust cover guide rail attached by two screws and a dust cover with serrations at the rear. The rifle correctly lacks caliber markings as .45-75 W.C.F. was the only caliber initially offered. The standard two line address/King’s patent marking is on top of the barrel, model designation on the upper tang, and serial number on the lower tang. It is fitted with a period replacement brass blade front sight and an “1876” marked folding ladder rear sight. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). CONDITION: Very good, retains 20% of the original blue finish, mostly in sheltered areas, with the balance a mixture of plum brown and grey patinas and a few scattered patches of pitting. The refinished wood is also very good with a few scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,000
LOT 3055 Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .405 W.C.F. - Serial no. 55513, 405 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured 1906 with Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The barrel is marked with the two-line nickel steel marking on the left and the “405 W.C.F.” caliber marking on top at the breech. The left side of the receiver is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates. The upper tang has the three-line model and trademark information, while the serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with a Marble-Sheard beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth Schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert and a straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% of the faded original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, primarily on the receiver, magazine and lever. The buttplate is mostly a grey patina with a few scattered patches of light pitting. The wood is very good with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Very Fine Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 417422, 30 WCF cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1908 with the standard Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The two-line address is marked on top of the barrel, with the two-line nickel steel marking and caliber marking on the left. The three-line model and trademark information is on the upper tang, while the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a full compliment of Lyman sights including a beaded blade front, two-leaf rear, and tang mounted peep sight, as well as a special order double set trigger. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% plus of the original blue finish, faint traces of the original case colors, and 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, most noticeably on the high spots of the receiver. The wood is fine with a few scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
LOT 3057 Fine Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 109002, 32 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1899, the barrel marked with the early standard two-line address and “32 W.C.F.” caliber marking at the breech. The three-line model, trademark, and patent information is on the upper tang, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a plum-brown patina and some scattered patches of light surface speckling. The wood is also fine with some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
