CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% plus original blue finish with an area of cold blue visible on the front right side of the receiver. 97% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The hammer, lever, and buttplate retain 98% plus vivid original case colors. The wood is also excellent with limited handling evidence. Mechanically excellent. A high condition example of a classic Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle in .45-70 caliber. Estimate: 8,500 - 14,000

The rifle has a third model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. It is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line Winchester address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight. The rifle correctly lacks the caliber marking. The upper tang is marked “MODEL 1873.” The lower tang has the serial number. The forearm and straight grip stock are plain walnut. The right side of the stock wrist is stamped with the number “16,” possibly a rack number. The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

The loading gate retains 90% original nitre blue. The hammer and lever retain 85% plus original case colors. The buttplate retains 95% plus original case colors. The wood is also excellent with some minor handling marks. An exceptional example of the classic Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle. Estimate: 9,500 - 16,000
