Smith & Wesson Model One, 1st Issue, Third Type Revolver with Gutta Percha Case - Serial no. 1170, 22 RF cal., 3 3/16 inch solid rib bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured circa 1858 with a spring loaded barrel catch featuring side projections as was standard
on all Third Type variations.
The barrel rib has the one-line
address, and the cylinder has the
patent date marking. Matching
serial number on the butt, both
grip panels, barrel and cylinder.
Complete with an original Smith
& Wesson Gutta Percha case with
decorative relief lid showing an
image of a No. 1 revolver and
“MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/
SMITH & WESSON,/SPRINGFIELD
MASSACHUSETTS”. The inside
of the lid has decorative royal
purple velvet, the bottom of the
case is lined in red velvet, and
the case contains a full
cartridge block.
CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel
and cylinder retain 75% original
blue finish with the balance
faded to a plum-brown. The
frame retains 97% original silver
plating. The grips are excellent
showing minimal handling marks
and retaining nearly all original
varnish. Mechanically fine. The case is very fine showing minimal handling evidence on the exterior and typical high spot wear on the lining. The delicate nature of these cases meant that many did not survive, and this case is definitely in well above average condition.

New York Engraved Smith & Wesson Number 1 1/2 2nd Issue Revolver with Rare Short Barrel, Pearl Grips, and Case - Serial no. 120171, 32 RF cal., 2 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips. The revolver has a New York engraving consisting mostly of floral scrollwork on
a punch dot background along with line and dot patterns. The revolver has the
rare and desirable short barrel (standard length was 3 1/2 inches) with the correct one-line S&W marking on the left side. The matching assembly number appears on the grip frame, barrel, and cylinder. The period leather bound French cut case contains an oiler and a sealed box of U.S. Cartridge Co. .32 caliber cartridges.
CONDITION: Very fine as New York engraved, retaining 70% original nickel plating with
a smooth gray patina on the balance. The engraving is crisp. The grips are excellent with limited handling marks and highly attractive fiery colors. The case is fine. Mechanically excellent.

Smith & Wesson Model Number
One 1st Issue 2nd Type Revolver with
Distinctive Bayonet Latch - Serial no. 699, 22 RF cal.,
3 3/16 inch solid rib bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood
grips. Offered here is a S&W Model Number One, 1st Issue,
2nd Type revolver which features the rare “bayonet” or flat spring barrel latch
found only on the first approximately 1,130 Model Number One 1st Issue
revolvers (1st and 2nd Type). The revolver also has the revolving recoil plate
attached to the frame. The barrel rib has the one-line address (faint), the cylinder has
the 1855 patent marking (faint), and matching serial numbers are on the butt, both grip panels, barrel and cylinder.
CONDITION: Very good. The barrel retains traces of original blue finish in the sheltered areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance and some pitting. The very fine frame retains
85% plus attractive age darkened original silver plating. The grips are fine with a number of handling marks. Action needs work as hammer does not hold at the full cock position. A rarely encountered S&W Model Number One, 1st Issue, 2nd Type revolver.

3rd Issue Revolver - Serial no. 87800, 22
RF cal., 3 3/16 inch solid rib bbl., nickel finish,
antique ivory grips. Manufactured from 1868 to 1881.
Featuring fine, New York broad floral scrollwork on punch dot
background covering 70% of the surface. Matching assembly marks appear on the grip frame, cylinder, and barrel. The revolver wears a set of checkered grips, and both grip panels are numbered to the gun. The barrel rib has the standard one-line S&W legend. A hobbyist case is included.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining 90% original nickel plating with crisp engraving. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering and attractive color. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500

Issue Revolver with Pearl Grips - Serial no. 70424, 22
RF cal., 3 3/16 inch solid rib bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips.
Manufactured from 1868 to 1881. Featuring a fine, extensive L.D. Nimschke-style New York scroll engraving on punch dot background. Matching assembly marks on the grip frame, cylinder and barrel. Fitted with pearl grips.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 95% plus original nickel plating with light freckling on
the grip straps and some mild flaking on the cylinder flutes. The engraving is crisp. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling marks and fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
