LOT 510 Factory Engraved Charles Lancaster 16 Gauge Sidelock Over/Under Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 13747, 16 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured between 1911 and 1921 per page 121 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”, Built with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight
on the upper barrel, a wedge of scroll engraving at the breech extending toward the muzzle along with a single band, “CHARLES LANCASTER 11 PANTON St. HAYMARKET. LONDON”
and “HAMMERLESS EJECTOR PATENT.” marked on the right and left ribs respectively, import mark under forend, period London proofs, and chambers marked 2 9/16 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a casehardened sidelock action which displays floral scroll engraving surrounding “CHARLES LANCASTER” signatures on either lockplate and continuing onto the triggerguard, toplever, and both tang. The gun features a single trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. The gun is mounted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and black tip and a round knob pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, a blank gold inscription oval, and a checkered bare butt. Includes an oak & leather takedown case containing snap caps, oiler, and cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at “16” (.662 inches) and measured .664 inches; choke constriction .016/.006 inches; minimum wall thickness .037/.041 inches; 1 1/4 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% blue and coin finishes with some fading of the markings, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Factory Game Scene Engraved Simson Sidelock Over/Under Shotgun Two Barrel Set and Case - Serial no. 54629, 12 gauge, 29 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Built with blued steel barrels featuring a single nickel bead sight on the matted solid rib which is marked “SIMSON, SUHL (THURINGEN)”, “SPEZIAL-GEWEHRLAUFSTAHL” marked on either side of the upper tube, front sling swivel, attractive scrollwork at the breech, 1952 dated German proofs, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with
automatic ejectors. The barrels are mated to a coin finished bolstered sidelock action which displays scroll engraving surrounding deeply cut oak leaves on the bolsters and a trio of fine game scenes. The game scenes consist of a roe buck and two does running in a forest, the underside has a capercallie rooster
displaying for a hen, and the right has a raptor diving on a flock of mallard at a pond. The action also bears a small import mark on the frame rail. The gun features double triggers, cocking indicators,
bushed lower firing pin, and a tang mounted safety. The gun is fitted with a nicely figured and multi-point checkered three-piece forend with engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with horn grip cap, raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and walnut extension with hard rubber Sauer buttplate. Included is a second matching 24 5/8 inch combination barrel set chambered for 7x65R and 12 gauge with a 2 3/4 inch chamber and .034 inch choke constriction. Also included is a set of German claw mounts with no scope and a wood and canvas takedown case for the set. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .729 inches; choke constriction .032/.040 inches; minimum wall thickness .044/.045 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 5/8 inch drop at heel; 14 15/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% original blue and coin finishes with minor freckling and dried grease on the barrels, and minor handling evidence. The wood is very good with some light dings and scratches, buttplate cracked at toe, and overall worn but well-defined checkering. The case and extra barrel set are very fine. Mechanically excellent. Built with blued Bohler Blitz steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted vent rib which is marked “G. Juch-Ferlach”, scroll engraving at the breech, import mark under forend, 1984 dated Ferlach proofs, choke constrictions of .008/.024 inches, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are mated to a coin finished hand detachable sidelock action which displays scroll engraving surrounding a roe buck and doe fleeing from a dog on the left and a pointer flushing a trio of mallards of a pond on the right. The gun features a single trigger, cocking indicators, and a tang mounted safety/selector with gold inlaid “USO” indicators. The gun is fitted with a nicely figured and multi-point checkered three-piece forend with engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with a black grip cap, blank silver inscription oval, and a horn buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 5/8 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 6 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, original blue and coin finishes with plum hue on the triggerguard and minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a chip and repaired crack above the forend, a few minor marks, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Built with blued Spezial Laufstahl barrels featuring a single white bead sight on the matted vent rib, standard Merkel markings, light engraving around the breech, front sling swivel, import mark under forend, 1983 dated German proofs, choke constrictions of .015/.031 inches, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are mated to a coin finished hand detachable sidelock action which displays scroll engraving surrounding two detail game scenes depicting a setter and a pointer flushing a trio of quail in a forest on the left and a fox flushing a flock of ducks on the right. The gun features a single selective trigger, cocking indicators, and a tang mounted manual safety. The gun is fitted with a nicely figured and multi-point checkered three piece forend and a pistol grip stock with black grip cap, raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and black buttplate. Includes a wood and leather takedown case. Stock measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 10 oz. CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 97% original blue finish with some spotting on the right of the upper barrel, 99% original coin finish with some areas of dried grease, and light handling evidence. The wood is very good with a few dings at the comb, small setting crack at the upper tang, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent.
