Hard Times Armory/Valmet M-78 Selective Fire Rifle,
Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no.
390356, 7.62x39 mm cal., 16 inch round bbl., matte black finish,
metal stock. Manufactured in Finland and imported by Valmet,
Incorporated of Elmsford, New York as a semi-automatic rifle, this
M78 rifle has been converted to selective fire operation by Hard
Times Armory of Smyrna, Georgia. An evolution of the Soviet
Kalashnikov, the Valmet design included a number of revisions
and upgrades, including an extended sight radius, dual-lever safety mechanism and an easier to strip gas system, without sacrificing the reliability of the original. Adjustable hooded post front and two-leaf peep rear sights, with flip-up night sights (sans illuminator material), birdcage flash hider, bayonet
lug, ribbed handguard, smooth pistol grip and side-folding metal buttstock. The left side bears the original Valmet markings and the added Hard Times markings, with the Valmet, Inc. markings on the underside ahead of the trigger. The selector switch is in “safe/full/semi” configuration, with the bolt head electro-pencil numbered to match the receiver.
CONDITION: Very fine as upgraded to full automatic, with 95% plus refinished matte black finish, showing some light wear and handling marks overall. The charging handle is dented, with
soldered repairs. The pistol grip and forearm show mild scuffs and dings. Mechanically very
good. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which
is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under
the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
