Factory Master Angelo Galeazzi Signed and Goddess Diana
Theme Engraved FAMARS 20 Gauge Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun Two Barrel Set with Case - Serial no. 28946, 20 gauge, 25 11/16 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. In 1967 Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli founded Fabbrica Armi di Mario Abbiatico e Remo Salvinelli, more commonly known as FAMARS. Since the beginning the two have been innovators in the world of fine arms and have made a name for themselves creating some of the finest bespoke guns ever built. This gun was built with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single nickel bead sight on the matted flat vent rib with is marked with a gold inlaid “I” at the base, “’Magnifici + Famars’” marked in gold on the left tube and “’Armi Famars’” on the right, wedges of floral scroll engraving at either breech and muzzle, and 1971 dated Italian proofs on the flats showing 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a highly attractive coin finished sidelock actions with exceptionally well-executed floral scroll engraving surrounding a trio of scenes depicting Diana, the goddess of the hunt. The left side shows Diana and five maidens at rest in a lovely garden with her dog, the right has Diana and one of her maidens by the waters edge with Diana’s feet being washed along with her dogs, and the underside depicts Diana alone with her dog on the hunt. The gun is triple signed “Galeazzi ‘71” on the triggerplate and both lockplates for highly renowned Italian Master Engraver Angelo Galeazzi. The gun features bushed firing pins, a single non-selective trigger, and a manual tang mounted safety with gold inlaid “Safe”. The gun is mounted with a outstanding beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend with coined and engraved fittings including the Anson button release which has a gold inlaid “I” and a blank inscription oval as well as a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, “JBE” inlaid in gold directly into the wood, and a checkered bare butt. Included is a second matching set of 25 11/16 inch .20 gauge barrels with gold “II”s in place of the “I”s. Also included is an oak & leather takedown case that houses the set.
