Outstanding and Scarce Factory Engraved J. Rigby & Co. Small Frame Kurz Action Bolt Rifle in .223 Remington with Scope - Serial no. 6874, 223 Remington cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This rifle, along with next five consecutively serialized lots constitute the full gamut of bolt action rifles available from John Rigby & Co., from this incredible kurz action in .223 Remington to the massive .450 Rigby Magnum. Rigby has long been one of the finest makers of rifles in the world, and this grouping is a veritable tour de force showing off their outstanding craftsmanship with the entire grouping sharing the same style. The rifle was built without sights on the blued steel barrel which is marked “J. Rigby & Co. London, England” on the top side and bears the front sling swivel along with 1997 dated London proofs. The diminutive kurz action is also blued and displays beautifully cut floral scroll engraving on nearly the entire surface with the exception of “CAL. 223/ REMINGTON” and “MADE IN/ENGLAND” marked in panels on the left and right side of the front receiver ring. The rifle is fitted with matching engraved scope mounts and rings holding a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x scope as well as nitre blue extractor and ejector, gold inlaid “SAFE” marking, and a four panel checkered bolt knob. The bottom metal and floorplate are engraved with the same elegant scroll engraving surrounding gold inlaid lettering reading “RIGBY/.223 REMINGTON” on the floorplate and the serial number “6874” on the triggerguard. The barrel and action are mounted in a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with engraved and casehardened grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, “SRM” marked in the gold inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and a black leather covered recoil pad. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence, slight plum hue to the barrel and action, and sharp checkering on the stock. This rifle along with the previous lot and the following four lots display the entire range of rifles available from Rigby, from the rare small frame .223 Remington to the massive .450 Rigby Magnum. Rigby has long been one of the finest makers of rifles in the world, and this grouping is a veritable tour de force showing off their outstanding craftsmanship with the entire grouping sharing the same style. The rifle is fitted with matching engraved scope mounts and rings holding a Zeiss Diavari V 2.5- 10x50mm T* scope as well as nitre blue extractor and ejector, gold inlaid “SAFE” marking, and a four panel checkered bolt knob. The bottom metal and floorplate are engraved with the same elegant scroll engraving surrounding gold inlaid lettering reading “RIGBY/.243 WIN.” on the floorplate and the serial number “6875” on the triggerguard. The barrel and action are mounted in a highly figured and multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with engraved and casehardened grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, “SRM” marked in the gold inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and a black leather covered recoil pad.
