Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 380208B, 38 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Model 1873 is one of the most famous of all American firearms and has been popularly known as “the Gun that Won the West” due to its popularity with pioneers, as well as the Native Americans they were often in conflict with. It was often paired with a Colt Single Action Army or other
revolver chambered in a matching caliber, which made carrying ammunition for both simple and allowed an individual to be ready to defend
themselves against man or beast in a variety of tough situations. Manufactured in 1888 as a third model with integral dust cover guide and dust cover with serrations at the rear.
The two-line address and King’s patent marking is marked on the top of the barrel along with the caliber marking at the breech. The model designation is on the upper tang and serial number is on the lower tang. The caliber marking is also on the cartridge elevator. It is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. It is fitted with a combination
front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). CONDITION: Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 40% original blue finish with streaks finish visible throughout, otherwise faded to plum. The receiver retains 95% bright original blue finish with
smooth brown patina on the balance and a series of light scratches on the right rear side. Traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. 50% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever.
Faded patterns of original case color remain on the buttplate. The wood is very fine with minor-moderate handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
LOT 3067 Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Extra Lightweight Lever Action Rifle in .45-70 W.C.F. - Serial no. 149458, 45-70 WCF cal., 22 inch round lightweight bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1910, this is a fine example of a special order Winchester deluxe Model 1886 extra lightweight rifle. These rifles have remained desirable to collector’s and shooters in almost any condition due to their practical configuration and iconic caliber. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. This example is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates on the upper left of the barrel along with the nickel steel marking and caliber marking. The three-line model and trademark information are on the upper tang and the two-line patent dates and serial number are on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is marked “54 XX”, with “54” repeated in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight fitted on the standard extra lightweight soldered ramp, Lyman two-leaf rear sight, and a Lyman peep sight mounted on the left of the receiver, all of which were likely special ordered from the factory. The rifle also has a half magazine, which is typically seen on “extra lightweight” rifles. It is mounted with a very finely figured and H-pattern checkered forearms and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and checkered, hard rubber, shotgun buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and some small speckled patches of light pitting concentrated on the upper right of the receiver. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches, a minor chip absent from the toe of the buttplate, and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. LOT 3068 Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Takedown Rifle - Serial no. 287296, 30 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1905. The rifle has a dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, standard Winchester markings including the Winchester factory oval proof on the barrel and receiver, and plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate. As “the ultimate lever gun” for over a century, the Model 1894 has truly become the most famous and popular sporting rifle of all time, and this example stands out as a well above average condition for America’s working gun. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with thinning to gray on the balance and a couple areas of brown-gray patina. 80% plus original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. 90% plus original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The buttplate is hand marked with an eleven digit number and retains slight faded patterns of original case colors. The wood is also very fine with some minor dings, scratches, and handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
LOT 3069 Documented Antique Special Order Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with 28 Inch Barrel and Factory Letter - Serial no. 331404B, 32-40 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Model 1873 became one of a handful of firearms that became synonymous with the American west due to their widespread use on the frontier and their ruggedness. This example was manufactured in 1890 as a Third Model with integral dust cover rail on top of the stepped down receiver and dust cover with gripping serrations at the rear. The standard two-line address/King’s patent marking is on the top barrel flat along with the caliber marking. The upper tang is marked with the model designation and the lower tang has the serial number. It is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration as well as shipment on 21 August 1890. CONDITION: Fine, retains 70% plus of the original blue finish, strong traces of the original case colors on the hammer, and 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to mostly a brown patina and a few scattered small patches of light patina. The refinished wood is very good with some scattered minor handling marks and a minor sliver absent from the upper left of the wrist. Mechanically fine apart from the magazine follower which is jammed inside the magazine tube. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000 LOT 3070 Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action .25-20 WCF Rifle - Serial no. 509087, 25-20 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1909 in desirable .25-20 WCF caliber. The rifle has a dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, Lyman folding tang peep sight, Winchester factory oval proof on barrel and receiver, and left barrel flat with the two-line Winchester legend and “25-20 WCF.” Mounted on a plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The hammer and lever retain 30% original case colors. Slight faded patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The wood is also fine with numerous scattered dings and minor handling marks on the forearm. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750 LOT 3071 Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 273392, 32 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1904. The rifle has a dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, folding tang peep sight, and top barrel flat with the two-line Winchester legend and “32 WCF.” Mounted on a plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 60% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance and high edge wear. Traces of original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. 50% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
