Documented Antique Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 High Wall Schuetzen Rifle with Cody Research - Serial no. 48021, 32-40 WCF cal., 30 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe walnut stock. The accompanying Cody Firearms Records Office letter lists this rifle in .32-40 caliber with a 30 inch octagon no. 3 barrel, set trigger, checkered stock, midrange and windgauge sights and Swiss buttplate when it was received in the warehouse on April 21, 1891 and shipped the same day. Features a windgauge front sight, standard elevator rear sight mounted on the barrel, midrange tang peep sight, deluxe walnut checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with nickel plated brass Swiss buttplate. The top barrel flat is stamped “32-40” at the breech and “3” on bottom ahead of the forearm. The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are nicely figured deluxe walnut. The forearm and pistol grip have an ebony insert. The left side of the lower tang is marked “264 XXX” and assembly number “26x” (last digit illegible) is stamped on the stock inlet. CONDITION: Very good, retains 30% original blue finish and strong patterns of the original case colors with smooth gray and brown patina and scattered freckling on the balance. The lightly reoiled deluxe wood is very good with some light handling marks, a reglued cracked section visible on the front left of the forearm, a few lines of grain separation on the right of the buttstock, and otherwise nice figure. Mechanically excellent.

Antique Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 Low Wall Rifle - Serial no. 40553, 25 WCF cal., 28 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe walnut stock. Manufactured in 1890. The no. 1 barrel has the early production two-line Winchester New Haven address on the top flat and has “25 WCF” at the breech. The rifle is fitted with a globe front sight, a filler block in the rear sight dovetail, and a Vernier tang sight. The lower tang has the patent date marking. The receiver is fitted with a single set trigger. The checkered forearm and pistol grip are nicely figured deluxe
walnut. The forearm and pistol grip have an ebony insert. The stock is fitted with a casehardened crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower
tang is marked “10 CFS.” The stock inlet and buttplate have the number “272.”
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 80% faded original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The remaining metal surfaces retain 60% original case colors. The wood is also fine with minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

LOT 3075 Very Scarce Winchester Model 1885 High Wall 20 Gauge Takedown Shotgun - Serial no.
113962, 20 gauge, 26 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The Winchester Model 1885 is based on John Moses
Browning’s first of many firearms patents and was produced in a wide variety of rifle calibers and configurations. However, the company also
produced a small number of Model 1885s as 20 gauge shotguns in the early 20th century. This very scarce Winchester shotgun was manufactured in 1913 with a
plain barrel with a silver bead front sight, the two-line nickel steel marking and the two-line Winchester address and patent markings followed by “20 GA.” and “MOD” markings on the left side, “WP” proofs on top of the barrel and action, the latter location offset to the left due to the wavy line “matting” on the top of the frame, the three-line trade mark legend on the upper tang, the serial number on the lower tang followed by “A” at the rear, smooth Schnabel tip forearm with contrasting inlay, and straight grip stock with 13 3/8 inch length of pull. The chamber appears to be 3 inches. CONDITION: Very good, retains 30% original blue finish, the casehardened frame turned to smooth brown patina with vivid original case colors showing on the protected areas of the breech block, with scattered heavy freckling overall. Stock is also very good with numerous scattered scratches, discoloration, and otherwise defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Scarce Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Musket in .22 LR - Serial no. 121197, 22 LR cal., 28 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. These were manufactured between 1913-1923, with this example manufactured in 1917. Standard markings including forward placed Winchester factory oval proof on the tapped barrel (filler screws installed) and receiver at the breech. The three-line patent and trademark information is on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower. The No. 1 weight barrel has the two-line address/patent marking, caliber marking at the breech, and is fitted with a Lyman blade front sight, along with a tang mounted folding Lyman peep rear sight. Mounted with a smooth musket style forearm with finger gasping grooves and straight grip stock with a sling swivel and military style buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus original blue finish with a few patches of light flaking and wear. Stock is also very fine with rich oil finish, a few light handling marks, and distinct edges overall. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250

Early Production Three Digit Serialized Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Rifle - Serial no. 528, 22 LR cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Receiver manufactured in 1885 (the first year of production) and fitted with a later production no. 3 .22 LR barrel featuring the two-line Winchester legend ending with the 1879 patent date used after serial number 83,000. The rifle has a globe front sight adjustable for windage, tang Vernier sight, filler block in the rear sight dovetail, and single set trigger. CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored. The barrel retains 98% of the blue finish and the remaining components retain 95% plus of the case colors. The wood shows limited handling marks and a few slight stress lines at the upper tang.
