LOT 1422
Claudio Tomasoni Signed Factory Game Scene Master Engraved Cosmi
Lusso Break Action Semi-Automatic Shotgun - Serial no. 6049, 12 gauge, 26
1/2 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Founded by Rudolfo Cosmi,
the firm has built a reputation amongst shooters as a manufacturer of extremely
well-shooting guns over the years. Remarkably, this design dates to around the turn
of the 20th century. Cosmi guns appear to be both futuristic while also hearkening to the past with its
unique break action semi-automatic action. The gun is operated by breaking the action to expose the internals, loading shells in the magazine tube which is housed in the stock, placing a round in the chamber, then manually cocking the hammer before closing the action and making the gun ready to fire. This gun is built with a blued Bohler Antinit steel barrel featuring a single bead sight on the matted vent rib, 1984 dated Italian proofs, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and choke constriction of .033 inches (full). The two-tone action is engraved with light border leaves on the blued upper receiver and tight English bouquet and scroll engraving making magnificent use of negative space surrounding a highly detailed game scene of two
mallards coming in for landing on a marshy pond. The engraving is signed below the game scene “inc. C. Tomasoni” for the late Italian Master Engraver Claudio Tomasoni. The left side bears the Cosmi factory and model markings “MOD. LUSSO/COSMI - BREV.” - TORRETTE - ANCONA - ITALY”. Nicely checkered multi-point checkered forend and pistol grip stock with a checkered bare butt. Stock
measurements: 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% plus original blue finish with limited handling marks, some light patina on the right side of the lower half of the action, and crisp engraving. Wood is fine with handling marks, dings and scratches, a gap between the buttstock and receiver, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. These shotguns are rarely seen stateside, and it would make a standout appearance on your next bird hunt!
