Inlaid Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company A. H. Fox Small Frame .22 Winchester
Magnum Double Rifle with Case - Serial no. R001, 22 Win Mag cal., 22 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, walnut
stock. Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company developed these small frame double rifles that are truly an amazing feat of
manufacturing and represent the ultimate in fine rimfire rifles. Built with blued barrels featuring a beaded blade front sight on a ramped base, fixed notch rear sight with gold centerline on the rear quarter rib which is marked “CAL .22 MAG.” in fine gold inlay, “MADE TO ORDER, A.H.FOX” and “KRUPP - FLUID - STEEL” marked on the right and left tubes respectively in gold inlaid lettering, and chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are graced by fine wedges of scroll engraving with a single gold band at the breech and muzzle as well as a mother raccoon with five kits behind her on the left tube and a mother squirrel and five
kits in tow on the right all inlaid in detailed gold.
The barrels are mated with a diminutive Fox boxlock
action built specifically for these tiny double rifles.
The action displays deep relief scroll engraving with
gold inlaid borders surrounding “ANSLEY H. FOX”
banners on either side and a trio of game scenes
before spilling off of the action onto the toplever
which shows a dove in flight, both tangs, and the
triggerguard which displays a porcupine inlaid and bordered in gold. The game scenes depict a
bush baby and frog on the left side, a possum with its joeys on the underside, and rabbit with its bunny on the right side all cut in fine detail.
The engraving is signed on the left of the triggerplate by renowned American Master Engraver Richard Roy. The rifle features a right hand rolled triggerguard, double gold triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The rifle is mounted with a gorgeous highly figured and fancy fleur-de-lis
checkered splinter forend with engraved
and gold bordered fittings and an ebony
tip inlay as well as a straight grip stock
with carving on the flats and behind the
wrist checkering, gold inscription oval
marked “COOK”, and a gold bordered and
engraved skeleton buttplate around a
checkered bare butt. Included is a wood
and leather takedown case with leather
lining, oiler, two turnscrews, and cleaning
tools. Length of pull 14 5/16 inches. Weight
4 lbs. 6 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining
99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes
with minor handling evidence, crisp
engraving, some varnish wear at the
comb, and sharp checkering on the stock
and forend. Mechanically excellent. The
case is very fine with minor wear. A rare
chance to own an exceptional American made small frame double rifle!
