Extraordinarily Rare Engraved J. & W. Richards All-Brass Boxlock Flintlock Blunderbuss with Sprung Underslung Bayonet - NSN, 28 gauge, 13 3/4 inch round bbl., brass finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1810, this is an extremely rare example of a boxlock blunderbuss, an action type normally associated with pistols. Joseph and William Richards worked at 16 Staining Lane, London, 1808–10 and had retail premises at 62, Strand, London. They also worked as gun and rifle makers at 49 New Street, Birmingham, 1799-1817, from where Joseph carried on alone until 1830. The three-stage round barrel has a flared muzzle
and turned moldings. The sprung bayonet is fitted beneath, and the ramrod is housed to left side. The right side of the breech is struck with Tower private proof
marks and the maker’s mark. The engraved boxlock action is signed “J & W RICHARDS” (left) and “LONDON” (right) and has engraved iron fittings, including the trigger guard which has an extension forming the bayonet latch that is released by a second trigger. The figured walnut buttstock it mounted with an engraved brass buttplate. The wooden ramrod has a dark horn tip. The bore is estimated. CONDITION: Very good with a pleasing bronze colored patina. The engraving is clear on the brass parts. The iron parts have a dark almost blue patina and some scattered corrosion pock marking. The stock is also very good with scattered age related storage and handling marks. Mechanically excellent, including the bayonet which snaps into position correctly. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500

Brass Barrel P. Bond Flintlock Blunderbuss with Under-Folding Snap Bayonet and Australian Penal Colony Inscriptions - NSN, 20 gauge, 16 inch part octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This blunderbuss has a brass barrel inscribed “CORN-HILL LONDON” on top, stamped with London on the upper left as well as “NEW SOUTH WALES”, an engraved border at the breech end, and an 5 1/2 inch folding bayonet mounted on the bottom and released by a sliding trigger ahead of the trigger guard. The lock has “P BOND” inscribed at
the center a stepped tail, a frizzen spring roller, and martial engraving. The furniture is brass and includes a pineapple finial on the trigger guard and classical martial trophies and floral engraving. The trigger guard is inscribed “PENAL COLONY 3.” The stock has a checkered wrist. The bore is estimated and flares out to about 1 inch at the muzzle. CONDITION: Fine with an attractive aged patina on the brass, dark brown patina on the lock, and general mild overall war. The revarnished stock is also fine and has distinct checkering, mild scratches and dings, a few worm holes, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,000

British Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss with “I FARMER 1744” Lock - NSN, 9 gauge, 15 1/2 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. The lock is marked with “I/FARMER/1744” at the tail, the Georgian cipher at the middle, and a “crown/ broad arrow” below the non-bridled pan. The brass barrel flares to 1 3/8 inches at the muzzle (bore estimated above) and has “crown/P” and “crown/V proofs on the upper left at the breech. It is mounted with brass furniture, including a Brown Bess style side plate. CONDITION: Good with attractive aged patina on the brass, gray patina and mild pitting on the lock and tang, and general moderate wear. The refinished stock is also good and has some cracks, noticeable large chips near muzzle, and other repairs. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Fine British Flintlock Brass Barreled Blunderbuss with Snap Bayonet by Bass -
NSN, 20 gauge, 14 1/8 inch part octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1813-1820s with a multi-stage brass barrel that flares to approximately 1.3 inches at the muzzle (bore estimated above) and is marked with “London” on top and Birmingham proof marks on the upper left. It is mounted with a folding snap bayonet with a 10 3/4 inch blade. The lock is signed “BASS”/ The brass furniture has floral and martial engraving patterns, including a stylized pineapple trigger guard finial. CONDITION: Fine with attractive aged patina on the brass throughout, minor dent at the muzzle, gray and brown patina on the lock and bayonet, and general mild overall wear including some scratches and dings on the crisp metal and exceptional wood.
