Historic Documented Vietnam
War Captured Chinese Type 53 Bolt Action “ Sniper Conversion” Carbine with PU Scope, Bayonet and DD603 War Trophy Paperwork - Serial no. 3185266, 7.62x54 R cal., 20 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, hardwood stock. This Chinese Type 53 carbine is period fitted with a PU scope and is documented as having been this way when it was captured in Vietnam. An April 12, 1968 dated DD603 War Trophy registration document accompanies the rifle that lists “(RIFLE) TYPE 1955-
26 BOLT ACTION CHINESE SNIPER WITH TELESCOPE ATTACHED TO RIFLE, CAL. 7.6” and “SERIAL # 3185266 MANUFACTURED IN CHINA” identifying it by serial number as property of U.S. Army staff sergeant William J. Reynolds of Chattanooga, Tennessee, stationed in Pleiku. The Chinese Type 53 carbine was effectively an exact copy of the Soviet M44 Mosin-Nagant carbine. As China adopted more advanced SKS and AK pattern rifles, the older Mosin-Nagant based longarms ended up in second line service, as well as being slated for export, with many becoming part of North Vietnam’s inventory. The carbine features a hooded pin front sight and notched tangent rear sight, with the model, “1955”date, arsenal 26 marking and serial number on the chamber. Matching visible serial numbers to the rifle on the bolt, inside of the scope mount, stock and buttplate. Fitted with a hinged side-folding bayonet and a straight wrist stock with a flat buttplate, and a canvas sling. CONDITION: Very good as a jungle used Vietnam War trophy. Retains 70% original blue finish with smooth brown and gray patina on the balance, some patches of light pitting, and some scattered light freckling. Stock is also very good as refinished, with scattered scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent. Scope is also very good, retains
85% period applied black painted finish with a rough textured appearance and some areas of flaking showing through to corrosion. The sling has a well used appearance. Estimate: 4,500 - 7,000
Very Scarce North Korean Type 63 SKS-45 Pattern Semi-Automatic Rifle with Bayonet - Serial no. 0717, 7.62x39 mm cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, laminate stock. A North Korean manufactured variant of the Russian SKS-45. Reportedly, a limited amount of these were exported for use by
the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. Surviving examples are very seldom seen on the American collector market today when compared with other SKS variants. No import marks are visible on this example, indicating it was likely a Vietnam War bring-back. Features a hooded front post and elevation adjustable notched tangent rear sight, and folding blade bayonet. Original transliterated serial number: “0717J”. The top cover is marked with circled “star” with model type beneath. Fitted with birch handguard and laminate finger groove stock with smooth buttplate. Matching “0717” serial numbers on the bolt, bolt carrier, dust cover, trigger housing, magazine floor plate, and buttstock. Includes green web sling and cleaning kit in butt trap. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% plus of original blue finish with moderate handling marks, freckling, minor pitting on top rear, and light spotting. Stock is fine with several moderate scratches and flaked/ crazed varnish. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

Rare North Vietnam Production SKS-45 Semi-Automatic Rifle with Blade Bayonet - Serial no. 630704, 7.62x39 mm cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, birch stock. Starting work in 1959, the North Vietnamese constructed a factory for the production and overhaul of small arms north of Hanoi, with assistance provided from the Chinese No.296 arms factory, which began operation in 1962. From then to 1965 the factory produced roughly 6,000 SKS-45 pattern semi-automatic rifles for the North Vietnamese Army, before the facility was destroyed by U.S.A.F. strategic bombing. The small production numbers during that period make North Vietnamese produced SKS rifles the rarest variant of the classic Soviet design, made even more so by the fact that the only examples in the United States made their way in as war trophies. This example was manufactured in 1963, as indicated by the first two digits of the serial number. Features hooded post front and adjustable tangent rear sights, “star 1” mark on the left of the receiver, and folding knife bayonet. With matching serial numbers on the bolt, bolt carrier, dust cover, and trigger housing. Fitted with smooth oiled birch handguard and stock, with partially visible matching serial number on the butt and a trapdoor metal buttplate (sans door plate). Includes a web sling. CONDITION: Fair, displayed wear and tear expected from a North Vietnamese battle used SKS, later captured and likely brought stateside as a war trophy, with pitting, rust oxidation, brown patina, and dried varnish. The stock is also fair as heavily sanded and varnished, with numerous scuffs and minor cracks. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,500
