Upgraded Engraved and Gold Inlaid Lefever Optimus Pattern Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 56011, 12
gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1906 and subsequently masterfully upgraded to its current configuration emulating the
famous Optimus Grade, the highest grade available from Lefever. The gun has blued steel
barrels featuring a dual white bead sights on the matted flat solid rib, “LEFEVER ARMS Co.” and “WHITWORTH FLUID STEEL” marked on the right and left tubes respectively,
wedges of engraving with a gold band at either breech, and 2 5/8 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a casehardened action with carved
fences and extensive scroll engraving surrounding “LEFEVER ARMS Co.” banners on either side, patent information on the triggerplate, and five game scenes before
continuing onto the triggerguard, toplever, and both tangs. The left sideplate shows a pointer flushing a woodcock, the right sideplate has a setter flushing a quail, the
underside has a standing woodcock, the triggerguard shows a setter with a bird in mouth, and the toplever shows a pigeon in flight all inlaid in fine gold. The gun features
gold plated double triggers, gold plated cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “S” indicator. The gun is mounted with a beautifully figured
and fancy fleur-de-lis checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, a gold setter, and ebony tip inlay as well as a straight grip stock with drop point inlays and ebony heel and toe
plates around the checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .731/.728 inches; choke constriction .026/.032 inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.030 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 7/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 6 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as masterfully upgraded, retaining 99% blue, casehardened, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, a tiny crack at the rear of the left sideplate, sharp checkering on the stock
and forend. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 7,000 - 11,000

The barrels are fitted to a casehardened boxlock action which displays near full coverage floral
scroll engraving including the toplever and upper tang and surrounding four beautiful gold inlaid game scenes consisting of a pair of mallards in flight on the left, a pair of standing pheasant cocks on the right, and bald eagle over “”MADE IN U.S.A.” on the underside, and a majestic elk on the blued triggerguard. The gun features a single gold plated non-selective trigger, cocking indicators, and a tang mounted manual safety/selector switch with gold inlaid “R/S/L”. The gun is mounted with a beautifully figured and fancy fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail forend with blued and engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap, blank copper inscription shield, and a leather faced ventilated rubber recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .621/.620 inches; choke constriction .000/.000 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.035 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 1 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally upgraded, retaining 98% plus blue finish with minor loss on the lower tang, 90% case colors with only minor areas of muting, a few wood to metal gaps at the stock head, and minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a few scratches on the stock, some wear to the recoil pad mostly on the face, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A great chance to own a rarely seen American classic!
