Engraved and Relief Carved Pair of German Percussion Pistols by
Tetz -A) Tetz Percussion Pistol - NSN, 57 cal., 8 1/4 inch part octagon bbl., brown/casehardened/gold finish, hardwood
(reportedly pecan wood) stock. This pair of early 19th century German percussion pistols is signed “TETZ” below the springs and “A CROSSEN” above the frizzen springs
and may come from Crossen an der Elster in Thuringia. The smoothbore octagon to round barrels feature German silver blade front sights floral blooms, and alternating
textured backgrounds. Notch rear sights are fitted to the upper tangs. The locks have additional floral engraving, hammer stalls, and sea serpent hammer. The gilt brass mounts
feature rococo patterns, animals, masks and a scene of Diana and two stags on the pommels. The stocks and ramrods have dark horn tips. The notes indicate the stocks are pecan wood. They
feature stunning raised relief rococo scroll, shell, and mask carving.
CONDITION: Fine with gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel, strong gilt finish on the mounts, and distinct designs throughout. The stock is also fine and has some thin cracks, spliced repair
at the toe, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine. B) Tetz Percussion Pistol - NSN, 57 cal., 8 1/4 inch part octagon bbl., brown/casehardened/gold finish, hardwood (reportedly pecan wood) stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good with gray patina and minor pitting the lock and barrel, strong gilt finish on the mounts aside from the replacement side plate, and distinct patterns throughout. The stock is also very good
and has some minor chips and cracks, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine.

Relief Chiseled and Engraved Italian
Flintlock Pistol with “Lazarino” Marked Barrel - NSN, 54 cal., 10 3/8 inch part octagon bbl.,
brown finish, walnut stock. This c. late 17th to early 18th century pistol likely originates from Brescia, Northern Italy, and features a three-stage barrel marked
“LAZARINO” on the breech section and turned girdles dividing the sections. The lock features pierced and chiseled scrollwork and foliate patterns. The iron
mounts feature additional chiseled, engraved, and pierced designs, including a mask on the pommel.
CONDITION: Very good with 85% plus of the refinished brown remaining on the barrel, partially obscured marking, gray and brown patina on the lock and mounts,
mild oxidation, a few cracks and chips in stock, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.

Engraved and Gilded Carlsbad Flintlock Pistol - NSN,
54 cal., 8 3/4 inch part octagon bbl., blue/gold/bright
finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. mid-18th century, likely in Carlsbad. The smoothbore octagonal to round barrel has a rounded brass blade
front sight and is decorated with gold inlaid scroll and dot designs on the breech section. The flat beveled lock has a faceted pan and is engraved with scrollwork and a
scene of two riders exchanging pistol shots. The chased gilt brass side plate has a complicated scene of a boar, three dogs, a man on horseback, another running with a
spear and a third running with a sword, all in a forest scene. The butt plate shows an armored figure with shield and spear and martial trophies. The trigger guard shows a
mounted figure with a sword on the bow and foliate patterns and martial trophies on the finial. A gilt brass inlay surrounds the barrel tang and has sculpted engraving to match the other pieces and
is itself surrounded by raised relief scroll and shell carving. The full-length stock has additional molding and carving, and it and the ramrod have light horn tips.
CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel has about half of the original blue finish and retains nearly all of the gold inlay. Strong traces of original gilt remain on the brass mounts. The stock is fine and has some
faint cracks, light scratches and dings, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine.
