Factory Engraved Boss & Co.
Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun
- Serial no. 5612, 12 gauge, 29 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This gun was completed
between 1906 and 1910 according to page 237 of Donald Dallas’ book “Boss
& Co.: Builders of Best Guns Only”. The gun has blued steel barrels and features a
single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked with a faded Boss & Co.
signature, “SLEEVED” marked at either chamber, modern London proof marks on the flats along with
an import mark, a second import mark under the forend, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to
the casehardened sidelock action which displays Boss’ classic highly attractive bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “BOSS & Co.” signature banners on either
lockplate and Boss patent markings on the left, right, and underside. The gun features a single non-selective trigger, gold centerlined cocking indicators, right hand
rolled triggerguard, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered splinter
forend with engraved fittings and an Anson button release as well as a round knob pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank inscription oval, and a
checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured at .729 inches; choke constriction
.009/.009 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.032 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 5/8 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 13 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% blue finish on the barrels, some original blue on the triggerguard, flashes of original case colors on the action with the balance
a fine silver patina, slight gap on either lockplate with the receiver, and light handling evidence. The wood is very good with a few chips in the forend, smoothed checkering on the forend, a few
dings and scratches, and well-defined checkering on the stock. Mechanically excellent.

Royal Hammerless Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial
no. 27065, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/brushed bright finish,
walnut stock. This gun was completed between 1911 and 1913 according
to page 334 of Donald Dallas’ “Holland & Holland: The ‘Royal’ Gunmaker” and was
made with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib
which is marked with a gold inlaid “2” and a flourish of scroll at the base, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” and
“98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.” signed on the right and left tubes respectively, period London proof marks on the flats along with an import mark, a second import
mark under the forend, and chambers marked “1 1/8” (2 1/2 inches) with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the brush bright hand detachable sidelock action
which displays near full coverage “Royal” scroll engraving surrounding “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” signature banners on either lockplate as well as “ROYAL/HAMMERLESS/
EJECTOR” on the underside before spilling off of the action and continuing on the triggerguard, both tangs, and the toplever which is marked with a gold “2”. The gun
features double triggers, gold centerlined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully
figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and a gold “2” on the Anson button release as well as a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points,
“M.D.K.” engraved in the gold inscription oval, and a wooden extension with checkered buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .733/.735 inches;
choke constriction .002/.004 inches; minimum wall thickness .020/.022 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 15 1/8 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 6 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refinished, retaining 99% blue finish, 99% brushed bright finish, crisp engraving, minor handling evidence, a few scratches on the wood, a sliver of wood absent
from the forend, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
