Stunning Factory Engraved Cosmi Lusso Break Action Semi-Automatic
Shotgun - Serial no. 5125, 12 gauge, 26 3/4 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish,
walnut stock. Founded by Rudolfo Cosmi, the firm has built a reputation amongst shooters as a
manufacturer of extremely well shooting guns over the years. Remarkably, this design dates to around the
turn of the 20th century, Cosmi guns appear to be both futuristic while also hearkening to the past with
its unique break action semi-automatic action. The gun is operated by breaking the action to expose the
internals, loading shells in the magazine tube which is housed in the stock, placing a round in the chamber, then manually cocking the hammer before closing the action and making the gun ready to
fire. The gun is built with a blued Bohler Antinit steel barrel featuring single bead sight on the matted vent rib, 1977 dated Italian proofs, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and choke constriction of .033 inches. The
blued portion of the action is unadorned aside from the Cosmi factory marking on the left side reading “COSMI BREVto ANCONA ITALY”, while the coin finished portion of the action is highly decorated
and shows attractive scrolling floral vinework over a darkened background in deep relief. While the engraving is stunning, it is unfortunately unsigned, though it was clearly done by the hand of a
highly skilled master of the craft. The gun is fitted with an attractively figured and multi-point checkered forend with front sling swivel as well as a pistol grip stock with rear sling swivel and a BMR rubber
recoil pad. Stock measurements: 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 6 lbs.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue finish with some plum hue, 99% original coin finish, some minor loss in the darkened background on the underside, a few minor dings in the wood, minor
handling evidence, stress line at upper tang, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. A fine opportunity to own one of the finest semi-automatic guns extant!
