Scarce Factory Engraved Parker Brothers
20 Gauge GHE Grade Double Barrel
Shotgun with Case and Original Hang Tag
- Serial no. 237077, 20 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in
the post 1934 Remington era as one of only 360 built in this combination of barrel steel,
gauge, barrel length, and grade according to page 279 of “The Parker Story” by Gunther,
Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, which also states that only some 67% of total production had
ejectors like this gun making it quite a rare find. Built with a single bead sight on the matted
concave solid rib which is marked “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. PARKER SPEC. STEEL” and chambers measured 2 5/8
inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened action which features GH pattern engraving consisting of oval game bird scenes
on the left, right, and underside surrounded by light scrollwork and line borders. The gun features double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully
figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with Parker grip cap, silver inscription shield marked “S.A.M.”, and a Parker dog’s head buttplate. The
above has gauge, barrel length, barrel steel, stock type, and ejectors confirmed on page 592 of “Parker Gun Identification & Serialization” by Price and Fjestad. Includes an Abercrombie
& Fitch marked wood and leather takedown case marked “S.A.M.” on the lid and containing two snap caps, oiler, cleaning tools, and remarkably, the original hang tag. Barrel and stock
measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .617/.617 inches; choke constriction .003/.023 inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.026 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2
7/16 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 97% original blue finish with much of the loss at the lower tang, 85% original case colors with some fading/muting on the underside, minor handling
evidence, a few minor scratches in the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine as is the hang tag. A rare opportunity to own a rare
configuration American shotgun!
