Factory Master Nick Kusmit Engraved Winchester 20 Gauge
Model 21 Double Barrel Shotgun Two Barrel Set with Boxes
and Factory Letter - Serial no. W33136, 20 gauge, 26 1/4 inch
vent rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This gun was built with
blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels featuring dual bead sights
on the matted flat vent rib which is marked “CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER FOR JOSEPH K. AMBUS” along with a gold inlaid “1”, single band of
engraving at the breech, chokes marked “IMP-CYL”/”MOD”, and chambers marked 3 inch with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a blued
action which displays Winchester’s 21-1 engraving pattern showing tasteful use of scrollwork on all sides as well as on the toplever along with “J/K/A”
engraved on the triggerguard. The gun features a single selective trigger, engine turned (jeweled) watertable, and a tang mounted automatic safety.
The gun is fitted with a gorgeous American walnut AA figured and multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings and a black tip
inlay as well as a pistol grip stock blued steel grip cap and skeleton buttplate around a checkered butt. Included is a second set of 30 inch barrels with
their own semi-beavertail forend, gold “2” at the base of the rib, 3 inch chambers, and chokes marked “MOD”/”FULL”. Also included is a factory letter
which confirms the above configuration of both barrel sets as well as the craftsmen that worked on the gun, including the engraving carried out by
renowned Master Engraver Nick Kusmit. The gun was completed on June 28, 1989, for a Mr. Joseph K. Ambus who was the president of Sandusky
Metal Products. Finally, the original box and a box for the extra barrel
set are included. This gun is nearly identical to the previous lot, a 12
gauge two barrel set which was completed on the same day also for
Mr. Ambus. Barrel measurements for the extra set (R/L): bore diameter
nine inches from the breech .614/.617 inches; choke constriction
.013/.025 inches; minimum wall thickness .040/.042 inches. Barrel and
stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech
.615/.615 inches; choke constriction .004/.011 inches; minimum wall
thickness .032/.039 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at
heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 7 lbs. 1 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue finish with
minor handling evidence, some pitting on the buttplate edge, and
sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The
boxes are very fine and the extra barrel set is excellent.
