Factory Engraved Winchester 16 Gauge Model 21 Double
Barrel Shotgun Two Barrel Set with Factory Letter - Serial
no. 16574, 16 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut
stock. This gun was built with blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels featuring dual bead sights on the
matted concave solid rib, single band of engraving at the breech, chokes marked “WS-1”/”WS-2”, and chambers marked 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are
fitted to a blued action which displays Winchester’s 21-4 engraving pattern depicting a pair of mallards taking flight on the left, a pointer and a setter on the underside, and a pair of quail in flight on
the right all surrounded by floral scroll engraving and boarders. The gun features a single selective gold trigger and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted
with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings as well as a pistol grip stock with factory hard rubber grip cap, “S/H/R” in the gold inscription oval, and
a checkered bare butt. Included is an extra set of matching numbered 28 inch barrels with chokes marked “IMP. MOD.”/”FULL” and 2 3/4 inch chambers. Also included is a factory letter which confirms
the above two barrel sets, chokes, sights, chambers, gauge, single trigger, ejectors, safety, and skeet barrel length when it was completed for Cook, Newton and Smith Inc. on November 19, 1947. The
letter goes on to confirm that the gun was sent back to the factory on November 22, 1949, where it was engraved in the #4 pattern, fitted with a standard skeet stock, and recheckered. Barrel measurements for the extra set (R/L):
bore diameter nine inches from the breech .671/.671 inches; choke constriction .026/.030 inches; minimum wall thickness .031/.032 inches. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .674/.678
inches; choke constriction .007(jug)/.016 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.023 inches; 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% factory reapplied blue finish with most of the loss on the underside of the action and lower tang, a few freckles of minor spotting, some dings and scratches in the wood,
chip at the front left of the forend, and crisp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrels have 90% finish with some spotting and loss.

Attractive Pigeon Grade Style Winchester Model
42 Slide Action Shotgun - Serial no. 56684, 410 gauge, 26
inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1947 with
standard markings including Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and
receiver at the breech and the engraved pigeon on the magazine tube. Dual white
bead sights on the solid matte rib, 2 1/2 inch chamber, and choke marked “MOD.” Mounted with a finely figured double diamond pattern checkered
forearm and single diamond pattern pistol grip stock with a checkered Winchester buttplate and 13 7/8 inch length of pull.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, 99% as factory refinsihed finish with a few scattered light handling marks and some light cycling wear. The highly
figured wood has some scattered light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
