Very Fine Colt Bisley Model Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver - Serial no.
198057, 44-40 WCF cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, hard rubber grips. These
Bisley revolvers were designed by Colt with accuracy and target shooting in mind, two traits
that also made them widely popular with those who depended on them for protection. Those traits,
along with the caliber of this example, would have made it an ideal sidearm for a gunslinger, lawman,
or rancher of the American West, who could pair it with a Winchester lever action in the same caliber.
Manufactured in 1900. The barrel has the two-line Hartford address on top and “(BISLEY MODEL)/
COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” on the left side. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates
marking followed by an encircled Rampant Colt. Matching serial numbers appear on the frame, trigger
guard, and back strap.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish with high edge wear and the grip straps
mostly a smooth brown-gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 70% original case colors. The
grips are excellent with some minor handling marks mostly on the bottom and crisp checkering.
Mechanically excellent.

LOT 1145
Fine Blackpowder Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Desirable
“COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” Acid Etched Barrel Panel and Factory Letter - Serial no. 124943, 44-40 WCF cal., 7
1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, hard rubber grips. This is a highly attractive example of a Colt SAA that still
retains the early style acid etched barrel panel marking; “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. This etched barrel panel marking
were officially replaced by the Colt factory in the early 120,000 serial number range with the much easier to produce
and larger “roll marked” barrel stamping; “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. This pistol was actually shipped out in May 1888 and
is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that verifies the exact configuration of this outstanding revolver. The factory letter dated January
15, 1986, states that this pistol had a blued finish, rubber grips, 7 1/2 inch barrel and was shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York in a shipment of 10 pistols. The top
of the barrel is marked with the two-line address: “COLT’S P.T. F.A. MFG. CO/ HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.” and the left side of the pistol has the etched barrel panel reading
“COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. The left side of the frame is stamped in a three line, three patent date stack ending with 1875. The front left section of the trigger bow is
stamped: “44 CAL”, along with a small “44” on the underside of the barrel in front of the cylinder pin, designating that it is chambered for the 44/40 cartridge. It has the early
style Colt high polish blued finish on the metal parts with the color casehardened frame and hammer. The pistol has the full serial number correctly stamped on the front underside of the frame, the
trigger guard and on the butt of the backstrap and the cylinder is unnumbered.
CONDITION: Fine overall with 40% of the original blue finish on the barrel and ejector tube, with 50% of the original blued finish on the trigger guard and backstrap. The cylinder still retains 30%
of the thinning, fading blue overall. The remaining metal surfaces have turned a nice aged patina color. The frame retains 40% of it original case color finished overall mostly in the protected areas
while the hammer retains 50% of it case colors also mostly in the protected area with the balance having faded to a nice brown patina. The grips are very fine with light handling marks. Mechanically
excellent. A highly desirable example of an acid etched barrel panel blackpowder Colt Frontier Six Shooter revolver.
Provenance: The TTT Collection.
