Revolutionary War Era Officer’s Short Saber with Gilt Hilt and Lion Head Pommel - A
very similar example is shown on page 62 of “The American Sword, 1775-1945” by Peterson and is
described as an “Officer’s Short Saber of the Revolution.” The curved blade is approximately 26 1/2 inches long and has double
fullers and a 7 5/8 inch false edge. The hilt is gilt brass with an lion’s head pommel, and the grip is dark horn with a contrasting strip of copper ribbon.
CONDITION: Very good with dark patina and moderate oxidation/pitting along the blade, strong original gilt finish on the hilt, minor wear overall, and minor chipping at the ends of the grip.

1815 Dated Ohio Marked Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 45 inch round bbl., brown
finish, walnut stock. Approximately 5,340 of these muskets were manufactured by Harpers Ferry in the year 1815. The lock plate
is marked with “HARPERS/FERRY/1815” vertically at the rear and with the eagle and shield motif at the center. “OHIO” is marked ahead of
the proofs marked at the left of the breech. The musket features a bayonet lug on top of the barrel towards the muzzle, a brass blade front
sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band, sling swivels on the middle band and trigger guard finial, a trumpet head ramrod, and a “US”
marked socket bayonet.
CONDITION: Very good “fresh out of the attic” appearance with deep brown patina and mild oxidation and pitting on the metal under a coat
of varnish, low vent, moderate overall wear, some chips and cracks in the stock, and worn but mostly legible markings. Mechanically fine.

Scarce 1797 State of
Pennsylvania Contract John Miles Flintlock Musket - NSN, 69 cal., 44 inch round bbl., brown finish, walnut stock. Styled directly after the French
Model 1763/66 Charleville pattern, this is one of 20,000 muskets made by approximately 18 different contractors for Pennsylvania state militia
issue, authorized by the Legislative Act of 1797. This particular musket is one of the 4,000 manufactured by John Miles of North Liberties, Philadelphia (two
contracts of 2,000 each, 1798 and 1801). “MILES/PHILADA/CP” marked at the rear of the lock, the “CP” denoting ownership by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The breech of the barrel is stamped with a “V” above a sunken oval proof and “CP”, and the barrel tang is numbered “152”. “IB” and a stock maker’s marking stamped on the
left stock flat. Bayonet lug on bottom of barrel towards the muzzle, and a brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band. Sling swivels mounted beneath
the middle barrel band and ahead of the trigger guard.
CONDITION: Very good, with mottled brown and gray patina on the iron surfaces, some scattered patches of light pitting, and defined markings. Stock is fine with defined
edges, scattered dents and scratches, some minor chips at the edges, a few cracks visible on both sides ahead of the buttplate, and mostly legible stamps. Mechanically fine.

LOT 1221
Massachusetts Marked R. & C. Leonard U.S. 1808 Contract Flintlock Musket Dated 1813 - NSN, 69 cal., 44 inch
round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Manufactured by Rudolph and Charles Leonard of Canton, Massachusetts between 1808-
1814, this is one of the approximately 4,208 muskets delivered on contract. These muskets were the Harpers Ferry pattern
except they had a straighter hammer spur (top jaw guide) as on the Springfield models. The top breech area of the barrel
is marked “US” and “to MS” (Massachusetts) along with an “eagle head/CT” proof on the left of the breech as typically
seen on 1808 contract muskets, and two “V” inspection marks. The lock plate is marked “CANTON” in a vertical curve
above “1813” date behind the hammer, with an eagle and “US” above “R.&C. LEONARD” ahead of the hammer. “V/HHP”
inspection initials of Henry H. Perkin and “MS” stamped on the left stock flat. The upper barrel band has a brass front sight
blade and the bayonet lug is mounted on the bottom of the barrel.
CONDITION: Fine, with a mostly bright appearance on the iron surfaces showing scattered brown spotting/oxidation, and sharp markings and edges. Stock is also
fine with defined edges, a few dents and scratches, a small crack on the left ahead of the rear lock screw, a minor crack and a brass tack head visible on top ahead of the
buttplate, and crisp stamps. Mechanically fine.

LOT 1220
Virginia Manufactory Type II
Flintlock Musket Dated 1817 -
NSN, 69 cal., 42 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Approximately 37,125 of these Type II muskets were manufactured at the
Virginia Manufactory in Richmond for the State of Virginia to arm their militia from 1812-1821. This is one of approximately 4,536 reportedly
manufactured in 1817. The lock is marked “RICHMOND/1817” at the tail and “VIRGINIA/Manufactory” at the center, and has a correct iron flash pan
standard on pre-1818 production examples. “GW” inspection initials on the interior of the lock, with small “8” assembly marks on various components
inside the lock. Faintly legible initials carved on both sides of the buttstock.
CONDITION: Good with scattered dark colored light to mild pitting, and defined lock markings. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with some scattered scratches,
and chips behind the barrel tang and at the edges of the ramrod channel. Mechanically fine.
