Pair of Wire Inlaid and Carved Berleur Flintlock Eliptical Bore Blunderbuss Pistols -A) Berleur Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 6
7/8 inch part octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. These c. early 19th century pistols have pattern welded barrels with approximately
.87 by 1.70 inch elliptical muzzles and .62 caliber bores. The lock plates are marked “BERLEUR” under the frizzen springs. The pistols feature iron mounts
with some light engraving and full-length stocks with floral carving and wire inlays.
CONDITION: Very good. with gray and brown patina, some mild pitting, cracks and loose or absent pieces of inlay on the stock, crisp carving, and
moderate wear. Mechanically fine. B) Berleur Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 6 7/8 inch part octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good with gray and brown patina, mild pitting, pieces of wire inlay absent or replaced, minor cracks in the stock, crisp carving, and
mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.

Cased Pair of Engraved John Cuff Flintlock Officer’s Pistols
-A) J. Cuff Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 20 bore cal., 8 1/4 inch octagon
bbl., brown/casehardened/blue/silver finish, walnut stock. John
Cuff of London is identified by Blackmore as a goldsmith, jeweler,
and firearms dealer in 1818-1827 and as active at the 106 Regent
Street address on the case trade label in 1825-27. The smoothbore
Damascus barrels have post front sights, swivel mounted ramrods,
and casehardened patent breeches with platinum lined “JOHN/
CUFF/LONDON” maker’s marks, platinum lined vents, and gold
bands. The advanced flintlocks have rainproof priming pans, frizzen
spring rollers, sliding half-cock safeties, and “JOHN CUFF” towards
the center. The blued iron spurred trigger guards and pommel
caps are engraved. The wedge and wrist escutcheons are silver. The
pommel caps are dark horn. The half-length stocks have checkered
wrists. The case has the original John Cuff trade label inside the lid,
loading and cleaning rod, three-way combination flask, ball mold,
additional pair of jaw screws, and flints.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel has a blend of original finish and dark
brown patina, distinct Damascus patterns, and minor pitting at
the breech. The breech plug, standing breech, and lock have 40%
original casehardened finish and smooth gray patina. The mounts
have 60% original blue finish, gray and brown patina, and minor
oxidation. The silver has dark aged patina. The stock is also fine and
has crisp checkering, minor scrapes and dings, small cracks, and
a small chip at the toe. Mechanically excellent. The case is good
and has moderate age and storage related wear, some chips and
cracks, and replacement hinges (originals in the case). The flask has a
broken spring; otherwise, the accessories have mild age and storage
related wear. B) J. Cuff Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 20 bore cal., 8 1/4
inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened/blue/silver finish, walnut
stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel has a mix of fading original finish and brown patina, distinct Damascus patterns, and
patches of pitting. The breech plug, standing breech, and lock have 40% original casehardened finish. The mounts have
50% original blue finish. The silver has dark aged patina. The wedge is chipped. The stock is also fine and has distinct
checkering, small chips and cracks, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
