The engraving is consistent with published examples engraved by Wilbur Glahn
who executed the majority of Colt’s factory engraving between 1919 and 1950.
The revolver has a flat top strap fitted with an adjustable target rear sight. The
barrel has an adjustable target front sight. The top of the barrel is marked with
the Colt address and “1884”, “1905” and “1926” patent dates in two lines. The
model designation: “+ OFFICERS MODEL 38+/+HEAVY BARREL+” is marked on
the left side of the barrel. The Rampant Colt trademark is located in an engraved
diamond on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder latch. The Colt “VP/
Triangle” proof is located on the left side of the frame under the crane along
with the serial number and an “X”, and the matching serial number is marked on
the crane. The trigger, hammer, and back strap have fine knurling. The smooth
pearl grips have “Colt/Rampant Colt” medallions. Includes an old leather
soft case.
CONDITION: Excellent with 98% plus original blue, crisp engraving and markings,
minimal light handling and storage marks, and faint cylinder drag lines. The
grips are also excellent and have minor handling wear and attractive natural
iridescence. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with moderate wear.
