Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle
Ring Carbine with Factory Letter - Serial no.
132447, 44 Henry RF cal., 20 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, walnut stock. This example was
manufactured in 1876, when the American West
was still very much wild. Many legendary firearms are often cited as the “Guns that
Won the West”, however, there are perhaps no long guns more iconic than the Winchester Model 1866 carbine. These
carbines simply have “the look” of having been there when the West was being tamed and were carried for decades
on the frontier by lawmen, cowboys, outlaws, Native Americans, gold prospectors, and settlers. This example is a
Third Model, with the serial number marked in block digits behind the trigger on the lower tang. The standard two-line
address and King’s patent marking is on top of the barrel. It is fitted with a blade front sight, integral to the barrel band,
a folding two-leaf rear sight, as well as a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip
stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). There is a circled “AOS” monogram cartouche on the left of the stock and another
faint “AOS” cartouche on the bottom just behind the lower tang. It is believed that these cartouches indicate being part of a contract for Argentina for either
military or police. The “AOS” cartouche is pictured on page 65 of the Winchester Book by George Madis who states that nearly 12,000 Model 1866 Carbines in
135,000-148000 serial number range were sold to Argentina in 1877, with this carbine falling just before that range and likely part of an earlier shipment. The
included factory letter lists the carbine as received at the warehouse on 8 September 1876 and shipped on 20 December 1876 in order number 7883.
CONDITION: Good, retains traces of original blue finish in the sheltered areas of the barrel and magazine tube with the balance a mottled brown
and grey patina. The frame is very good with attractively aged patina, mostly tight fitting side plates, and some scattered minor dings/dents.
The buttplate is also very good. The lightly sanded/reoiled wood is good with a few spots of filler and some scattered minor dings and scratches.
Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The David L. DeLullo Jr. Collection.

Documented Special Order Antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action
Takedown Rifle in Desirable .38-55 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 12738, 38-55 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1896,
this is an example of an early production, special order Winchester Model 1894. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .38-55 caliber with an octagon barrel and plain trigger,
a plain pistol grip stock, and in takedown configuration when received at the warehouse on 2 March 1896 and shipped the next day in order number 6783. In many ways, these
“standard grade” pistol grip rifles are less common than deluxe rifles with pistol grips, as often a person splashing the extra cash for a pistol grip would also order the deluxe checkered wood.
Out of the first 353,999 Model 1894s produced, only 13,703 were ordered with pistol grips, many of which had checkered wood, making examples like this quite scarce. The barrel has
the standard two-line address and caliber marking at the breech. The three-line model and trademark information is on the upper tang, and the serial number is marked on the bottom
of the receiver. The stock was not removed for assembly number inspection (screw slightly marred and tight). It is fitted with a set of “sporting sights”, including a German silver blade
front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Good, with traces of the original blue finish, mostly on the magazine, with the balance mostly a grey or brown patina, and a few scattered patches of light spotting. The
very lightly sanded and revarnished wood is also fine good with scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A rare, non-deluxe, pistol gripped Winchester Model 1894 rifle!
Provenance: The David L. DeLullo Jr. Collection.

Documented Special Order Extra Length Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 Lever
Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 424360, 32 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue/
casehardened finish, deluxe walnut stock. As a deluxe model, this Model 1873 is a highly sought after
Winchester collectible that is becoming increasingly difficult
to find in any condition. The factory letter states the rifle
was received in the warehouse on June 18, 1892 and shipped
on June 24 with a special order extra length 28 inch octagon barrel in .32 caliber, plain trigger,
checkered pistol grip stock and Lyman front and rear sights. The Model 1873 was considered a
working gun and customers were generally unwilling to pay for special order features at an extra
cost, making any special order feature like the 28 inch barrel and deluxe wood highly desirable
by today’s collectors. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman blade front sight (bead absent), an elevation
adjustable rear sight, and a folding tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line Winchester address
and King patent dates legend ahead of the rear sight and “32 WCF” at the breech. The caliber designation is repeated on the cartridge elevator. The
receiver has the highly desirable casehardened finish and is a third model with an integral dust cover guide rail and a dust cover featuring serrated
finger grip at the rear. The deluxe walnut forearm and pistol grip stock have factory “H” pattern checkering. The buttstock has an ebony inlay in the
pistol grip and a door crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very good plus. The barrel and magazine tube retain 30% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. 25% of the
original niter blue remain on the loading gate. The receiver retains 40% original case colors. The wood is also very good with a crack at the upper tang, minor
dings and scratches, and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
