Attractive Special Order Engraved Winchester Model
42 Pigeon Grade Slide Action Shotgun with Box -
Serial no. 142271, 410 gauge, 26 inch vent rib bbl., blue
finish, deluxe checkered/carved stock. The sides of the
receiver feature game scenes of two hunting dogs and
two quail in a wooded field scene on the left side and a
hunting dog and two grouse in a wooded field scene on
the right side. Both scenes are bordered with floral scroll
engraving with a punch dot background. There is a 1 1/2
inch wedge of floral scroll engraving on each side of the
barrel at the breech, and a small amount on the takedown
ring and trigger guard. The left rear of the barrel is marked
“--WINCHESTER--/--TRADE MARK--- MODEL 42-- 410 -- 3
IN. CHAM.--/MADE IN U.S.A. - WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-
-” over “SKEET”. The Winchester oval proof is marked
on the upper left side of the barrel and receiver at the
breech. Matching serial numbers and a pigeon engraved
on the bottom of the magazine tube. Red bead front
and brass mid bead sights on the matte vent rib, 3 inch chamber and
choked skeet. Jeweled bolt and follower, and mounted with extra fancy
American walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with “B” checkered
carving, metal grip cap and checkered Winchester buttplate. Includes a
copy of the “Special Order” form dated 6/12/57 stamped “SELECT WOOD”
and listing the features to be done as “MODEL 42/PIGEON GRADE” and
the following list of “EXTRAS” as 26” Vent Rib, Skeet Choke, Extra Fancy
American Walnut, Feather Crotch Pistol Grip. B-Carving, #5 Style Winchester Engraving and
Jewel Bolt & Follower. Includes box numbered to the gun with the end label stamped “SPECIAL/
PIGEON” and “SELECT WOOD”. The box contains the cardboard dividers and the instructions. Drop
at the comb is 1 5/8 inches, drop at the heel 2 7/8 inches and the length of pull is 14 1/4 inches.
CONDITION: Excellent overall showing only limited wear from storage. The wood is also excellent
plus with a few minor pressure marks from storage. Mechanically excellent. The box is very fine.
