Stunning Cased Pair of Consecutively Serialized Bryson J. Gwinnell
Signed, Master Factory Engraved, and Gold Inlaid Colt Black Powder Series
Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolvers with Shoulder Stock
-A) Colt Black Powder Series Third Model Dragoon Revolver - Serial no. 24617, 44
cal., 7 1/2 inch part round bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, smooth grips. Standard
markings and features, including 70% coverage of floral scroll engravings with
punch-dot backgrounds, along with gold bordering present on the barrel, loading
lever, frame, and hammer. The right side of the grip frame is signed “BJ GWINNELL”
under the grip for Master Engraver Bryson James Gwinnell, who worked for Colt from
1975 to 1986. Both grip panels are marked with matching “24617” serial numbers in
red pencil underneath. Consecutively serialized with “B” (24618). Includes a walnut
presentation case with red felt interior fitted for the revolver and “B”, a detachable
shoulder stock with unnumbered and blued floral scroll embellished iron, a brass
powder flask, engraved “L” shaped combination tool, engraved brass bullet mold with
sprue cutter, and an Eley Bros. cap tin.
CONDITION: Excellent as masterfully embellished by B.J. Gwinnell, retaining 99%
plus original blue, casehardened, and gold finishes with some green patina showing
on the German silver front sight, some attractive darkening of the brass grip frame,
but otherwise limited handling marks overall and crisp engravings. Mechanically
excellent. The case is very fine. The stock is excellent. B) Colt Black Powder Series
Third Model Dragoon Revolver - Serial no. 24618, 44 cal., 7 1/2 inch part round bbl.,
blue/casehardened/gold finish, smooth grips. As described in “A”, with “BJ GWINNELL”
signed on the right of the grip frame and matching “24618” serial numbers marked
under both grips in red pencil.
CONDITION: Excellent as masterfully embellished by B.J. Gwinnell, retaining 98% plus
original blue, casehardened, and gold finishes with some green patina showing on the
German silver front sight, some attractive darkening of the brass grip frame, and some
limited spotting showing on the cylinder scene, but otherwise limited handling marks
overall and crisp engravings. Mechanically excellent.
