Framed Hand Colored and Signed Print of “Throwing Rangers To
The Round-up Big Dry North Montana” by L.A. Huffman - Laton
Alton Huffman (1854–1931) is one of the most renowned American
photographers of the West. He operated out of Fort Keogh and then later
Miles, Montana, and is best known for his photographs of the changing
landscape of ranching and Native American life in Montana in the late
19th century and early 20th century. This hand colored and signed print
is marked “Throwing Rangers to the Round-up Big Dry North Montana” in
white at the bottom on the left and then has the copyright mark and “L.A.
Huffman” in white on the right.
The image shows a large number of cattle on the scenic Montana plains
with some hand colored tinting. He is known to have hand colored many
his earlier photographs. This print is housed in a gold painted wooden
frame measuring 32 inches by 19 3/4 inches.
CONDITION: Excellent with a clear unfaded image. The frame is very fine
with an antiqued appearance and some light storage and handling marks.
