1917 Double Action
Revolver with Original
Box - Serial no. 181852, 45
ACP cal., 5 1/2 inch round
bbl., blue finish, walnut
grips. This is an outstanding example of an extremely rare Model
1917 commercial revolver built on the early five screw N frame.
Manufactured directly after the 1917 military contract, these
commercial Model 1917s lack U.S. property markings with many
built from overrun U.S. contract parts. The barrel has the two-line
S&W legend on top and “S&W D.A. 45” on the left side. The left
side of the frame has the S&W monogram, and the right side of
the frame is marked “MADE IN U.S.A.” A lanyard ring is mounted
on the butt. The revolver wears a set of S&W medallion checkered
Magna walnut grips. Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, cylinder, and barrel. The original box is
numbered to the gun and features the correct end label.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% plus bright original high polish blue finish with a light cylinder drag line and
limited handling marks. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically example. The box is fine
with a separated lid corner. A superb representative example of the rear commercial S&W Model 1917
double action revolver.
