Documented Factory Engraved Pair of Colt “Custom Edition
Prototype” Single Action Army Revolvers with Original Ivory
Grips, Boxes, and Factory Letters -A) Colt Single Action Army
Revolver - Serial no. SA65252, 45 Long Colt cal., 2 inch round bbl.,
nickel finish, original ivory grips. The included factory letter lists
both revolvers in the pair and confirms the current barrel lengths,
calibers, finishes, factory “Class A” engraving, black powder
frames, and plain ivory grips with 150th anniversary medallions
when the pair was shipped from the factory to an individual in
Chester Heights, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1997, as Custom Shop
order number 170,162. The letter also lists the revolvers as being
“Custom Edition Prototypes”, and having shipped in a fitted oak
double gun case (not included). The revolvers show no provisions
for front sights on the 2 inch barrels in the classic “belly gun” style allowing for easier drawing
from concealment if called upon. The engraving on both guns consists of highly attractive floral
scrollwork over a punchdot background across the barrels, cylinders, frames, trigger guards,
and grip straps. The two-line address is marked on the top of the barrels, with the three-line
patent date on the left side of the frames. The grips are marked on the underside in black ink with the Custom Shop order number, both serial numbers (“SA65252” and “SA65253”) on gun “A”, and
“SA65253” on gun “B” along with “0977” and “0986” respectively. Both revolvers include their original factory boxes with end labels marked to show the engraving, grips, and prototype status.
CONDITION: Near new in box with only minimal handling evidence. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with light storage evidence.
