Neal Smith/Heckler & Koch HK53 Selective Fire Rifle, Class
III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no. A124239,
223-5.56mm cal., 8 1/2 inch round bbl., matte black finish, metal
stock. Manufactured in Germany in 1980 and imported as a semi-
automatic rifle, and then upgraded by Neal E. Smith of Mentor,
Ohio into a short barreled selective fire rifle. Hooded post front
and four-position drum rear sights, with a “HJ D” marked barrel,
“HK 53” and “IA” marked magazine well, and Smith address
added to the right side of the frame under the trigger housing.
Receiver is in “pin” configuration, with a textured triangular
handguard, textured pistol grip, and a two-position telescoping
buttstock. The trigger housing bears pictographic markings for
full automatic, two-round burst, semi-automatic and safe, with
ambidextrous selector switch and matching configured trigger
pack. Internally, the bolt carrier is “HK 9/96” marked with factory
original sear trip and the bolt head is “IB” marked. Included
with the lot are five extra magazines, a long flash hider/barrel
extension, and a canvas soft case.
CONDITION: Very fine as upgraded to selective fire, with 98%
factory quality finish overall, showing some light handling
marks on the metal and furniture. Mechanically excellent. NOTE:
This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable
Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C.
Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
