Factory Engraved Holland & Holland Royal
Hammerless Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial
no. 16458, 12 gauge, 27 inch solid rib bbl., blue/brush bright
finish, walnut stock. This gun was completed between 1893 and 1896 according to page 334 of Donald Dallas’ “Holland
& Holland: The ‘Royal’ Gunmaker” and has blued steel sleeved barrels featuring a single bead sight on the smooth concave
solid rib which is engraved with a flourish of scroll at the base and signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.”,
Birmingham reproof marks on the flats (date illegible) along with “SLEEVED”, import mark under the forend, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic
ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the brush bright sidelock action which displays near full coverage attractive “Royal” engraving surrounding “HOLLAND
& HOLLAND” signatures on either lockplate as well as “ROYAL/HAMMERLESS/EJECTOR” on the underside before continuing off of the action onto the
triggerguard, both tangs, and the toplever. The gun features double triggers, gold centerlined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The
gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved forend iron as well as a straight hand stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank gold inscription oval,
and a checkered horn buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at .719 inches and measured .722/.721 inches; choke constriction
.011/.021 inches; minimum wall thickness .035/.036 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 1 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; slight cast-on; weight 6 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 95% blue finish, some discoloration in the bright finish, some minor spotting/subsurface pitting, some light dings, scratches, and
edge wear on the wood, a tiny chip at the rear tang, and crisp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Underlever Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 3018, 8 gauge, 34 inch
solid rib bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured
in 1874 per page 333
of Donald Dallas’s
“Holland & Holland:
The Royal Gunmakers
The Complete History”. This 8 bore shotgun predates Harris
Holland taking on his nephew Henry as an apprentice and creating the world
renowned firm known for making some of the finest shotguns known to man. The
gun has brown Damascus steel barrels with a single steel bead on the concave solid
rib marked “H. HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND ST. LONDON.” and a band of engraving at the breech. The barrels are mated to
a casehardened frame and back action locks which display light floral scroll and beaded borders which extend on the underlever and rebounding
hammers. The locks are signed “H. HOLLAND”. The action is fitted with double triggers. The shotgun is mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered
walnut forend with engraved fittings and single key fastening and a straight grip stock with silver initial escutcheon and serrated
hard rubber buttplate. Stock measurements: 2 inch drop at the comb; 3 inch drop at the heel; 14 3/16 inch length of pull; weight 12 lbs. 15 oz.
CONDITION: Very good, retaining 70% original brown finish and 80% original case colors with some handling marks, spotting, dark patina on
the underlever and crisp engraving. The re-oiled wood is very fine with dings and scratches, some chips in the forend, and softened checkering.
Mechanically excellent.
