Factory Relief Game Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid German Boxlock Double Barrel Shotgun
- Serial no. 5334, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. Built with blued Krupp steel barrels featuring
a single bead sight on the hand filed flat solid rib which shows oak leaf engraving at the base, 2 1/2 inch wedges of oak leaf engraving at
either breech with intertwined gold inlaid scrolls, 1924 dated German proof marks on the flats along with “GERMANY” indicating the gun was built for export,
and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened boxlock action with false sideplates, clipped fences, and hidden
Greener crossbolt, which displays a pierced toplever and extensive deeply cut oak leaf engraving with gold inlaid scroll borders all surrounding four relief cut game scenes. The
scenes depict a nide of pheasants on the left sideplate, a setter on the underside, a brace of snipe on the triggerguard, and a flock of mallards on the right. The gun features a single
selective gold trigger and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and fancy checkered beavertail forend with engraved and
gold inlaid fittings and a horn tip as well as a pistol grip stock with horn inlays at the drop points, an engraved and gold inlaid grip cap, blank gold inscription oval, and a serrated horn buttplate. Barrel
and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .720/.720 inches; choke constriction .041/.043 inches; minimum wall thickness .037/.039 inches; 1 1/ 2 inch drop at comb; 2 5/16
inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 97% original blue finish, nearly all the original gold, traces of the original case colors with the balance a fine grey, a few freckles of spotting, minor handling
evidence, and crisp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved German Sidelock Double Barrel
Shotgun Two Barrel Set - Serial no. 6524, 16 gauge, 30 inch
solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. The gun is built with blued Krupp
Special Gewehr Lauf Stahl barrels
featuring a single white bead sight
on the matted concave solid rib,
high attractive wedges of oak leaf
and scroll engraving extending 1 3/4 inches from either breech, front sling
swivel, a small import mark under the forend, German proof marks dating to May of
1950, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the
coin finished sidelock action which displays deep oak leaf engraving on the sideclipped
fences and scroll engraving surround a calling capercallie on the underside, a roe buck on the triggerguard, and deep relief
engraved game scenes on either lockplate. The left lockplate shows a roaring red stag, two hinds, and a fleeing pheasant in
a forested scene and the right lockplate shows a fox flushing a trio of mallards and a hare. Though the work is unsigned, the consignor states that the engraving
was carried out by Anton Sodia’s firm in Ferlach, Austria. The gun features bushed firing pins, cocking indicators on either lockplate, double triggers, and a tang mounted
manual safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and relief oak leaf carved splinter forend with engraved fittings, an ebony tip inlay, and a bone inlaid acorn and two oak leaves. The pistol
grip stock is of the same lovely quality and features the same oak leaf carving at the wrist, comb, and behind the black grip cap, bone inlays at the drop points and on the shadowline cheekpiece,
rear sling swivel, and a deeply carved scene depicting a falcon descending on a hare on the left side near the rubber recoil pad. Included is a second matching numbered and engraved 12 gauge barrel set which measures 30 inches
and has 2 3/4 inch chambers. Also included is a non-matching takedown case that houses the entire set.
Barrel measurements for the 12 gauge set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .725/.723 inches; choke constriction .034/.039 inches; minimum wall thickness .041/.044 inches. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore
diameter nine inches from the breech .669/.669 inches; choke constriction .026/.028 inches; minimum wall thickness .038/.041 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% plus original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence and rub on the left tube ahead of the forend. The wood is very fine with some deterioration of the recoil pad, crisp carving,
some minor dings and scratches mainly on the comb. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrel set is very fine with absent sight bead. The case is very good. A wonderful example of a mid-century German shotgun!
