Factory “V.P.” Signed, Game Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid Gebruder Merkel
Model 147E Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 381850, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/coin/gold finish, walnut stock. Built with blued Krupp steel chopperlump barrels
featuring a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, standard markings, 1998
dated German proofs on the flats, choke constrictions of .003/.009 inches, and chambers
proofed at 3 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the coin finished
boxlock action, which displays light scroll engraving surrounding a pair of gold inlaid
game bird scenes depicting a trio of quail on the left and a pair of mallards on the right.
The engraving is signed on the left of the action “VP.” for the engraver that executed the work. The gun features bushed firing pins,
cocking indicators, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point
checkered forend with engraved forend iron and a straight grip stock with leather covered recoil pad. Stock measurements:
1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 9 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, small patch of light
spotting on the right barrel, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Gebruder Merkel .410 Bore Model 360 EL Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no.
383409, 410 gauge, 27 7/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Built with
blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted flat solid rib
which is marked “No. 52 of 100”, standard markings on the right and left tubes, 2000 dated German proofs on the flat,
chokes marked “1/2”/”1/1” (modified/full), and 3 inch chambers with automatic
ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the coin finished scalloped boxlock action
with Greener crossbolt and intercepting sears which displays scroll engraving
surrounding a pair of relief cut game scenes, consisting of a pair of snipe
on the left and a pair of pheasant cocks on the right. The left scene is signed “RZ” ahead of the birds. The gun
features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-
point checkered forend with engraved fittings and a straight grip stock with diamond shaped hand and a factory buttplate. These one of
one hundred Model 360 ELs were a special run built with deluxe wood and enhanced finishes. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore
diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at 10.3mm (.406 inches) and measured .409 inches; choke constriction .017/.033 inches;
1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, some areas of dried grease on the action, and
sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Engraved Gebruder Merkel 16 Gauge Model 1620SL No. 8 Sidelock Double
Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 481133, 16 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin
finish, walnut stock. Built with blued Krupp steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single bead sight on
the matted concave solid rib which is marked “1620SL No. 8”,
standard markings, small wedges of scroll at the breech, 2002
dated German proof marks, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with
automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the coin finished
true sidelock action with Greener crossbolt and intercepting
sears which displays scroll engraving surrounding two engraved game scenes consisting of a German short
haired pointer flushing a pair of quail on the left and four woodcocks in flight on the right. The engraving is
signed “O. Weiss” for Merkel Master Engraver Olaf Weiss. The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers,
raised rib cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully and multi-
point checkered forend with engraved forend iron and a straight grip stock with black leather covered recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements
(R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured at 17.0mm .669 inches) inches; choke constriction .005/.012 inches;
minimum wall thickness .034/.035 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 13 3/4 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 2 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue finish, 97% original coin finish, minor handling evidence, a few patches of light oxidation on the right of the action, and sharp
checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
