Factory Engraved Pair of Belgian Browning Presentation
D4 Grade Superposed Shotguns with Case -A) Jeannine Pirotte Signed
Superposed Shotgun - Serial no. 58842S76, 12 gauge, 27 5/8 inch vent rib bbl.,
blue/coin finish, walnut stock. This pair was manufactured in 1976, each gun was
built with blued Special Steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted
flat vent rib which is marked with a gold “1” or “2” at the base, import mark on
the flats, standard factory markings, chokes marked “**-”/”*-” (improved cylinder/
improved modified), and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The
barrels of each gun are fitted to a coin finished action which displays a gold inlaid
“1” or “2” on the toplever along with the highly attractive “D4” pattern engraving
showing scroll engraving surrounding a trio of game scenes consisting of a pair
of setters flushing a pheasant on the left, two pointers flushing a mallard on the
right, two setter busts on the underside, and a woodcock on the triggerguard.
The guns are signed “J.PIROTTE” on gun “1”, and “M.BODSON” on gun “2”, both
on the left side below the scene for FN engravers Jeannine Pirotte and Mario
Bodson. Both guns feature a single trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety/
selector with gold inlaid “S”, “O”, and “U” indicators. Each gun is fitted with a
beautifully figured and multi-point checkered Schnabel tip forend with engraved
forearm iron as well as a straight grip perch belly style stock with teardrop carved
drop points, “T.W.” in the gold inscription oval, and a Kick-Eez recoil pad. Included
is a wood and leather takedown motor case that houses both guns and show
“T.W” initials on the case and the canvas cover. Barrel and stock measurements
(U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .726/.725 inches; choke
constriction .011/.020 inches; minimum wall thickness .035/.033 inches; 1 3/8
inch drop at comb; 1 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; cast-off;
weight 6 lbs. 14 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% original blue finish, 95% original coin finish,
some wear just ahead of the forend, some light oxidation on the forend iron,
minor scattered freckling on the action. The wood is very good with a slightly oversized recoil pad, a small crack at the tip of the forend, a few light
dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine. B) Mario Bodson Signed Superposed Shotgun - Serial no.
58843S76, 12 gauge, 27 5/8 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. As described in “A”. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter
nine inches from the breech .725/.726 inches; choke constriction .010/.019 inches; minimum wall thickness .035/.033 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at
comb; 1 13/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 97% plus original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, some wear ahead of the forend, scattered minor spotting on the
coin finish on the receiver. The wood is very good with some dings and scratches, slightly oversized recoil pad, and mostly crisp checkering with some pressure marks.
Mechanically excellent.
