LOT 392
U.S.M.C. Property Marked Harrington & Richardson Model 50 Reising
Submachine Gun Class III/NFA C&R Machine Gun, with Case and Extra Magazines - Serial no. 63482,
45 ACP cal., 11 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. A closed-bolt blowback-operated submachine
gun, the Reising Model 50 saw action with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific as a substitute for the M1 Thompson,
though they found their best success as defensive weapons for war-essential industries and as patrol carbines
for American police forces. Blade front and elevation adjustable peep rear sights, with a flash hider/muzzle
brake and cooling fins on the “P M” marked barrel. In addition to the standard three-line Worcester address
near the ejection port and three-position selector/safety on the right side, the receiver is marked “2” near the
barrel and “USMC PROPERTY” on the left side, and the right side of the buttstock bears the U.S. Ordnance
“crossed cannons” proof and open bottom style Springfield “SA” stamp; while not explicitly documented, these
markings would suggest a military purchased Reising that survived the rigors of service and passed through
inspection at Springfield Armory after World War II. The stock is fitted with sling swivels on the underside and
a lightly serrated buttplate. Included with the lot is a Federal Laboratories style transport case, three extra
magazines (blued, with viewing ports on the left side), manual, and photocopies of Small Arms Review
articles on the Reising.
CONDITION: Very fine, 85% plus original parkerized finish, showing minor scratches and wear overall, and a few
areas of brown. The magazine well has some machining voids and toolmarks concealed by the stock. Stock is
very good as repaired/revarnished, with a number of scuffs and dents concentrated between the trigger and
magazine well, a pair of filled-in holes near the trigger guard, and chipping around the buttplate. Mechanically
excellent. The case is fine, with some detachment of the inner lining, stains, and scuffs appropriate to age.
NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a “Curios or Relic” as defined in
27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
