Metrotech M60 Belt Fed General Purpose Machine Gun, Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine
Gun, with Accessories - Serial no. 1020, 7.62 mm cal., 21 inch round bbl., matte black finish, synthetic
stock. Manufactured with a combination of a new-made, registered receiver box and a mix of commercial
and military surplus components, this is an excellent example of the world famous M60 machine gun.
Developed in the late 1950s, the M60 was designed as a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG), a single
weapon to replace as many different .30 caliber machine guns in the Army inventory as possible. The M60
was deployed as the chief infantry machine gun for Vietnam, along with a variety of air, ground, and water
vehicle mountings. While other designs started to fill the infantry niche from the 80s onward, the M60 is
still a front-line automatic weapon with American and allied armed forces. The barrel is equipped with a
fixed blade front sight, bird cage flash hider, and folding bipod, with the rear sight, quick-release latch and
a mounting base for an (absent) carry handle on the trunnion, and a ribbed plastic forearm with ventilated
metal heat shield. The makers marks are present on the underside of the receiver box, which is fitted with
a ribbed pistol grip, right handed selector switch, plastic-covered top cover and a ribbed plastic buttstock
with flip-up shoulder rest. Included with the lot is a folding tripod (T&E mechanism included, front pintle
adapter absent), an ammo box holder (not compatible with the M60 or the tripod), and three sealed
“repack kits” of belt links, cardboard liners, and canvas bandoliers.
