World War II Imperial Japanese Nagoya Arsenal Type 2 Arisaka Bolt Action Paratrooper Rifle - Serial no. 13265,
7.7 mm Japanese cal., 25 7/8 inch round bbl., blue finish, hardwood stock. One of roughly 21,000 ‘Teishin Rakkasan Shoujuu’ Type 2 take-down Arisaka
pattern bolt action rifles manufactured from 1943 to 1945 by the Nagoya Arsenal for use by paratroopers of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. Designed as
a dedicated take-down rifle versus the earlier ‘Type 100’ paratrooper rifles converted from existing Type 99 rifles, the Type 2 rifle utilizes a screw wedge on the right side of the
receiver/stock section to both secure and release the barre/forend section. Features fixed an inverted “V” blade front sight with square guards and a folding ladder peep rear sight with retained
anti-aircraft wings. Matching “265” partial serial numbers on the bayonet lug, barrel lug, bolt handle and extractor, along with matching “557” assembly numbers on both edge plates, the screw wedge,
and barrel. Fitted with a hardwood handguard, grasping groove forend, and buttstock section with cupped steel buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with the imperial “chrysanthemum” crest ground off the chamber ring, some minor edge wear, light cycling wear on the bolt, some scattered minor patches
of brown patina, oxidation, and specs of spotting, a half absent screw head on right side of rear mounting iron, along with scattered minor handling marks. The stock and forend are also very fine with some light compression
marks, minor handling wear, and some light staining. Mechanically excellent. Overall a solid representative example of a World War II Imperial Japanese Type 2 Arisaka paratrooper rifle!
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
LOT 431
Very Scarce Japanese Type 100 Paratrooper Bayonet with Sheath - Manufactured
in limited quantities, the Type 100 bayonet is chiefly associated with Japanese
paratrooper forces, for use with takedown paratrooper rifles and submachine guns.
Overall length is 12 1/4 inches, with a 7 3/4 inch unmarked blued blade with deep
single fullers on each side, smooth grip panels, and blued hardware with Nagoya
Arsenal and Toyoda Loom Works stamps on the back. Included with the bayonet is a
proper blued steel sheath and a metal case.
CONDITION: Very good, with about 85% of the original blue finish on the blade,
showing a line of sheath wear on each side, mild spotting and minor edge nicks, and
the hilt hardware showing rust and pitting. The grip panels are stained, with a chip in
the left panel, a crack in the right, and mild dings. The sheath shows shallow pitting and
spotting overall, with a bright rubbed area (likely from frog contact) near the mouth.
Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
