Factory Engraved German Merkel Model 140-2 Safari
Dangerous Game Double Rifle in .470 Nitro Express with Box
- Serial no. A470017, 470 Nitro Express cal., 23 1/2 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1999 per the “KK” date code on the underside of the chambers.
Features a fixed blade front sight on a ramped and matted rib, an island-mounted notch with additional folding leaf
rear sight, “Safari .470 N.E. No. 17” marked on top of the barrel rib near the chambers with the importer and manufacturer addresses on the left
barrel, two brass tipped raised cocking indicators on either side of the action, bushed firing pins, double triggers, a tang mounted safety, and
automatic ejectors. The coined action displays some factory engraved floral scroll patterns on either side and on the bottom surrounding the
“(craftsman)/SUHL” logo, along with patterns continued on the blued trigger guard. Fitted with a set of highly figured multi-point checkered
forearm and buttstock with engraved and coined fittings, a shadowline cheekpiece, black polymer grip cap, and a solid “Gebr.Merkel/Suhl” marked synthetic buttplate. Includes the original Merkel
box with a matching end label. Length of pull 14 5/8 inches. Weight 10 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent as factory embellished, retaining 98% plus original blue and coin finishes with some limited minor freckling on the action and limited minor handling evidence. The wood is
also excellent with limited handling evidence and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is very fine.

Factory Game Scene Engraved German Gebruder Merkel
Model 141 Double Rifle - Serial no. 551401, 8x57 IRS cal., 23 5/8 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a ramped red fiber optic blade
front sight and fixed rear sight on the matted solid rib, standard Merkel markings, 2002 dated
German proofs, import mark under the forend, small wedges
of scroll at either breech, and chambers with automatic
ejectors. The coin finished sideclipped boxlock action
displays a roaring red stag on the left in a forested scene and a running boar on the right with the balance
showing broad scrollwork. The rifle features double triggers, bushed firing pins, and tang mounted automatic
safety selector switch. Import marked underside of barrel under the forearm. Nicely figured, multi-point
checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with raised cheekpiece and black polymer grip cap
and buttplate. Length of pull 14 5/16 inches. Weight 8 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 99% original blue finish, 85% original coin finish, some discoloration on the action, and
overall light handling evidence. The wood is excellent with limited handling evidence and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Express - Serial no. 99806, 470 Nitro Express cal., 23 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue
finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1999 per the “KK” Ulm date code on the underside
of the chambers, with an importer mark on the left barrel. Features fixed ramped and
brass beaded blade front and standing
express rear sights on the matted quarter
rib with a removable blank to mount a red-dot
sight, a matching serial number along with the manufacturer’s address and the caliber marking on the
underside of the chambers, Krieghoff’s Combi-Locking Device that locks the hammers as the latch is
pushed forward and de-cocks the hammers when moved back, dual triggers and “KRIEGHOFF/CLASSIC”
engraved into the underside of the action. Fitted with a multi-point checkered and Schnabel tipped
walnut forearm and a multi-point checkered pistol grip walnut stock with a shadowline cheek piece and
black Decelerator rubberized butt pad. Length of pull 15 3/8 inches. Weight 11 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 90% plus original blue finish with some limited minor edge wear on the barrels and some light rub/edge wear on the underside of the action. The
wood is exceptionally fine with a few scattered minor compression marks, some minor rub wear, mostly crisp checkering, and attractive grain patterning. Mechanically excellent.
