Exceptional Winchester Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle in Desirable .22 Short
with Factory Letter - Serial no. 211473, 22 RF Short cal., 24 inch octagon bbl.,
blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1904. The included factory letter lists
the rifle in “S” caliber when received at the warehouse on 1 October 1904, and
shipped on 4 October 1904 in order number T114193. Beaded blade front and
elevation adjustable rear notch sights, third style barrel inscription, “22 SHORT”
on top barrel flat at the breech, Second Model receiver with hidden locking lugs,
standard markings on the upper tang, and serial number on the lower. 12 groove slide handle and smooth
straight grip stock with casehardened steel crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent with 90% plus bright original blue finish, well defined markings, small scattered surface scratches, and mild
cycling marks. The wood is very fine with scattered small dings and bruises, and mostly gray patina on the buttplate.
Mechanically excellent.

Special Order Winchester Deluxe Two-Tone Nickel Trimmed Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle in .22 Short,
with Factory Letter - Serial no. 178207, 22 Short cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue/nickel finish,
walnut stock. Per the included factory letter, this rifle arrived at the warehouse in February of 1904,
and was shipped out the same month. The letter notes the use of short caliber, checkered pistol grip
stock, and “Nickel trimmings”; per “Winchester Slide Action Rifles, Volume I” by Schwing, page 221,
in the 1-329,999 serial number range only 1,340 Model 1890s received factory two-tone nickel and
blue finish. Beaded blade front and elevation adjustable notch rear sights, with a short range peep
sight on the tang, with the barrel marked “22 SHORT” behind the rear sight. The receiver and frame
are both nickel plated, the former unnumbered and equipped with the second model winged bolt,
and the latter numbered on the lower tang. The forearm and pistol grip stock are both constructed
from fancy grain hardwood, the former in 12-groove configuration, the latter with a checkered pistol
grip, hard rubber Winchester grip cap, and a smooth nickel buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain 90% original finish, showing thinning appropriate to age, with light wear along the edges
and minor scratches. The replated receiver shows a small area of pitting on the right side near the hammer, with minimal wear on the nickel overall.
The refinished stock is fine, with cracks around the upper tang, scattered minor dings and scratches, attractive grain and sharp recut checkering. The
hammer slips off the safety notch when the trigger is pulled, otherwise mechanically functions.

Very Fine Winchester Semi-Deluxe Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle in .22 W.R.F.
- Serial no. 389991A, 22 WRF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, checkered walnut
pistol grip stock. Manufactured in 1909. Beaded blade front and elevation adjustable rear notch
sights, fifth style barrel inscription, Winchester “WP” proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech,
correct magazine tube without reinforcing collar, “22 W.R.F.” on upper left barrel flat at the breech, Third Model receiver
with exposed locking lugs, “WRF” marking on front of receiver, standard markings on the upper tang, and matching numbers on the lower tang
and receiver. 12 groove slide handle and checkered pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap and casehardened crescent steel buttplate. The lower tang,
end of the buttstock, and inside of the buttplate are marked with matching assembly number “5456”.
CONDITION: Very fine with 80% original blue finish, some small patches of pitting visible on the barrel, small dings on the edges, well defined markings, some mild edge wear, and cycling marks. The
magazine tube has a mostly gray/brown patina. The wood is also fine with scattered small dings and a few deeper rougher dents, well defined crisp checkering, and 75% original case colors on the
buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
